The Bay Area Community Foundation (BACF) has received a gift of $50,000 from AuGres Sims and Standish Sterling Schools to benefit the Arenac County Scholarship Endowment Fund.

The two school districts initially received a $50,000 grant from The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe to establish a college scholarship fund to benefit high school seniors from Arenac County.

The school districts worked with the Arenac County Fund Committee to endow the donation with the BACF. The Foundation will administer the scholarship.

The Arenac County Scholarship Endowment Fund will grant the first scholarship in the spring of 2010. The application will be available starting December 1 on the BACF website, www.bayfoundation.org.

BACF currently holds over eighty-five scholarships endowment funds. In 2009, BACF distributed 280 scholarships, representing $361,530 to Arenac and Bay County students.

Eileen Curtis, BACF president and CEO, said: "Thank you to The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for the initial grant and to the AuGres Sims and Standish Sterling schools for selecting the Bay Area Community Foundation to administer the scholarship. We are delighted the Bay Area Community Foundation has grown to where we can help many students alleviate some of the financial burden of paying for college."

BACF is a community based, philanthropic organization working to improve the quality of life in our community.

The Foundation's mission is to fulfill a wide array of donors' charitable wishes throughout Bay and Arenac Counties by building permanent endowment funds and serving as a leader for community improvement through effective grant-making and collaboration.

The Foundation office is located in the Pere Marquette Depot, 1000 Adams Street, Suite 200, Bay City, MI 48708.
