Junior Antonio Brown will lead the CMU Chippewa on the field Sept. 5 at Arizona.

Can Central Michigan University's sensational receiver Antonio Brown singlehandedly derail Michigan State University's hopes for national football glory?

It would seem that if anyone can do it, Brown would be the first choice.

And, if anyone can stop him it would seem Bay City's Trenton Robinson is the man for the job.

CMU junior receiver Brown is one of 37 players named to the Fred Biletnikoff Award watch list as the top college receiver.

Brown has caught a pass in all 27 games of his career.

Also, he was named an All-America first team punt returner by collegefootballnews.com.

Brown will start the 2009 season against the University of Arizona in a night game at Tucson on Sept. 5 and will face interstate rival the MSU Spartans on Sept. 12 in East Lansing.

Brown takes his national award hopes to Spartan Stadium to pit himself against the highly-touted MSU team that pundits say may be headed for an 11-1 season and the Rose Bowl.

In the open field Brown will be facing Bay City's super sophomore free safety Trenton Robinson, and it will be speed against speed in the race for the end zone.

"Redshirt freshman Trenton Robinson has the look of a rising star," says USA Today's football forecast.

"Trenton Robinson is a solid all-round football player," MSU Coach Mark Dantonio said. "In the spring, he showed that not only can he can run; he can hit too."

About Robinson's speed, Lee Thompson, Bay City Times sports writer wrote: "He flies in the 40, sizzles in the 60 and is a 100-and 200-dash demon."

Robinson won the 100 meters state championship as a sophomore at Bay City Central and has been clocked at a pro-level 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Brown is a two-time state qualifier in the 100 meter dash but it seems if Robinson is healthy he will be able at least to match Brown step-for-step in the open field. And, Robinson has become known as a sure tackler in several games last year and in spring practice.

The Detroit Free Press comments: "The secondary was one of Michigan State's weakest units as recently as three seasons ago, but a focus on recruiting quality defensive backs has given the Spartans a wealth of quality depth in the defensive backfield."

The Biletnikoff award is presented annually by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club and will be announced as part of the ESPN College Football Awards Show Dec. 10.

The award will be officially presented at the annual Biletnikoff Award dinner, hosted by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club, on Feb. 12, 2010.

Brown is a 5-10, 180 pounder from Miami, Florida, who prepped at North Carolina Tech.

Brown, an All-Mid-American Conference first team selection as a receiver, punt returner and kickoff returner in 2008, ranks second in school history with 195 career receptions, seventh in receiving with 2,001 yards and is tied for seventh with 13 touchdown receptions.

He holds the top two single-season receptions totals in school history with 102 catches in 2007 and 93 in 2008.

Brown led the nation in punt return yardage (20.5 ypr) and ranked fourth in all-purpose yards (178.1 ypg) in 2008. He caught at least 10 passes in four different games and had three 100-yard receiving games, finishing the year with 93 catches for 998 yards and seven touchdowns.

Brown was named MAC Special Teams Player of the Year in 2008 and MAC Freshman of the Year in 2007.

He was a consensus Freshman All-American after catching 102 passes for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns and setting a Bowl Subdivision freshman record with 2,267 all-purpose yards.

Jacory Stone of Eastern Michigan University also has been named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award.
