Pinconning Stuns Garber in Home Opener 40-12

On a drizzly night in Pinconning, the Spartans executed their double wing offense to perfection. Utilizing a combination of speed and power, they rolled past Garber for impressive 40-12 opening game win.
Garber took the opening kick off and sporting their newest tailback in Dominic Trogan, drove right down the field. But heavy third down pressure on Lee Madziar resulted in a Tyler Espitia interception at the Pinconning 21 and the treat was stopped.
Neither team could get their offenses on track the rest of the quarter even though Garber continued to enjoy good field position due to their initial drive.
The second quarter saw Pinconning ignite their offense that proved to be unstoppable. After returning a Garber punt to the Spartan 31, Pinconning attacked from their left side with success. Aided by two key third down passes from quarterback Casey Pashak to David Paulik for first downs, Lucas Foco powered up the middle for a 14 yard touchdown putting Pinconning on top 7-0.
Having stopped the Dukes at midfield, Pinconning started at their 17 and drove it right down the field. Again it was Foco finding a big hole up the middle, then breaking it outside for a 38 yard touchdown run with 13 seconds left in the first half. A muffed extra point attempt kept the half time score at 13-0.

Pinconning kept the momentum after receiving the second half kick off. Starting at their own 19, they drove to midfield before a costly third down delay of game penalty stopped the drive.
Garber started grabbing back the momentum as they went back to ball control offensive. This was short lived as a midfield fumble put Pinconning right back in business. The Spartans looked to be in kill mode as Tyler Espitia took the ball around right end and cut back for a long touchdown run.
But a penalty erased this. Pinconning came right back but a holding penalty erased a 17 pass to Foco pushing the Spartans farther back. Undaunted, Foco took the ball up the middle and breaking two tackles near the end scored raced 32 yards for another Pinconning score and a 20-0 lead.
A muffed kickoff put Garber on their own 11. Managing only a couple first downs, they punted and Pinconning was soon looking for more. Espitia burst around right end and raced 30 yards for another Pinconning score. A blocked extra point kept the score at 26-0.
Garber opened up its passing attack and soon was on the move. Key receptions by Travis Britko and a 28 yard reception by Mike Schroeder put the Dukes on the 19. Then Madziar hooked up with Schroeder again for Garber's first score of the game. A missed extra point made it 26-6.
Pinconning answered with a 21 yard run by Espitia around right end and the Spartans had stretched their lead to 33-6.
Garber struck right back. A 14 yard pass to Schroeder, an 8 yard screen to Trogan and a 21 yard scramble by Madziar had Garber knocking on the door. Moments later, Madziar hit fullback David Laskowski over the middle for a 15 yard touchdown making it 33-12.
But this was Pinconning's night. The Spartans went right back on attack culminating in a 17 yard touchdown run by Henry Patterson. The score capped off the night and an opening Spartan win of 40-12.
On the night, Pinconning racked up 429 yards in total offense with 390 on the ground. The ground attack was spearheaded by Lucas Foco's 150 yards and 3 touchdowns on 16 carries. He was supported by Tyler Espitia's 129 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries.
Garber was led by Lee Madziar's 11 of 16 passing for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Trogan led the Duke ground attack with 93 yards on 16 carries.
