All Saints Falls 54-21 to Reese in Home Opener

With the memory of last weeks away victory over Valley Lutheran in the back of their minds the All Saints Cougars ran confidently onto their home field hoping to add another "W" to their record. But this wasn't the same Cougar team fans were used to seeing. With new team leaders, and a new head coach at the helm, this years Cougars have some big shoes to fill; especially after last seasons playoff run.

Unfortunately the first play of the game couldn't have gone much worse for the Cougars. After successfully receiving the ball, Quincy Brissette #17 fumbled the ball, turning the ball over to the Rockets around midfield.

On the very next play the Rockets capitalized on All Saints' costly mistake. Reese's quarterback Jared Bender #13 sent the ball soaring over the Cougar defenders and into the waiting arms of receiver Justin Heinlein #2 who managed to out run All Saints' shocked defense and score the first Rocket touchdown.

The Cougars quickly recovered from their disastrous beginning and focused on getting a little pay back. On the second play of the Cougars surge down the field, they pulled off a brilliant passing play of their own. With the pressure on from Reese's defense, All Saints' quarterback Drew Janer #12 threw the ball deep down field where it was caught by Garrett Bowker #18 who managed to make it to within ten yards of the goal line. The Cougars evened the odds seconds later, when Janer blasted his way through the Rocket's defense and put his team on the board with a Cougar touchdown. After a successful PAT kick from Jake Lesniak #58 the Cougars took the lead.

The score didn't stay in the Cougars favor for long. Back on offense, the Rockets precision passing game came back to haunt the Cougars. Reese took back the lead after a spectacular 46 yard pass resulted in another Rocket touchdown.

The Rockets would go on to score two more touchdowns and a two-point-conversion to make the score 28-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The Rockets continued to dominate on offense, adding three more touchdowns and one PAT to their score before the end of the first half. The Cougars would go scoreless in the 2nd quarter, and head to the locker room down 47-7 at halftime.

After a rousing performance by the newly formed Cougar Dance Team and the All Saints Pom Squad the Cougars were ready to get down to business.

The Cougar defenders tightened up defensively in the second half, allowing the Rockets to add only one touchdown and a PAT to their score. Offensively, the Cougars managed to add a pair of touchdowns with their PAT's to their score in the final minutes of the 4th quarter.

Despite their best efforts, the Cougars walked off their home field with a 54-21 loss. All Saints' new Head Coach Eric Gust said after the game "We knew they (Reese) were a good team; we've got a lot of work to do." All Saints will take on USA next Friday at home.
