With the memory of last weeks loss to Vassar still fresh in their minds, the All Saints Cougars were looking to shake off their losing streak with a big win against the Hatchets. For the first half, the Cougars were playing a near perfect game, then errors began to shift the momentum towards Bad Axe in the second half.

The Cougars started off the night on defense and, despite their best efforts, gave up a touchdown six minutes into the game.

But the Cougars weren't going to give up just yet. Fighting back on offense, the Cougars got within twenty yards of a tying touchdown. Unfortunately, one mistake can change the course of an entire football game. For the Cougars, that mistake came when quarterback Drew Janer #12 was tackled on the play and, as he tried to toss the ball to a teammate, fumbled the ball. The Hatchets capitalized on All Saints tragic mistake and quickly scored on an impressive 40 yard touchdown pass. After a successful two-point-conversion, the Hatchets led 14-0 with just under three minutes to go in the first quarter.

Fueled by determination, the Cougars went back to work on offense and added a touchdown of their own on a seven yard run from Kevin Gwizdala #22 with just five seconds left in the first.

The Cougars tightened up defensively in the second quarter, but were unable to stop a 31 yard pass and the a one yard Hatchet touchdown run. With the score now 20-6 the Cougars needed a miracle to save their game before halftime. Lucky for them, they got their miracle. Forced to punt on a 4th and 8, Janer #12 punted the ball short of the line of skirmish where it was accidentally kicked by an unaware Hatchet defended. The ball, which was then a live ball, was quickly picked up by the Cougars who went back to work with a revitalized offense. A fifteen yard run from Janer was a fitting way for the Cougars to score their memorable touchdown. After adding two more points off a successful conversion to their total, the Cougars had narrowed Bad Axe's lead to 6pts 20-14.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, penalties and a few 'questionable' calls helped shift the momentum back to the Hatchets in the second half. Moments after a flag stripped the Cougars of their tying touchdown, the Hatchets poured some salt in the wound with another touchdown. The Hatchets would score twice more in the fourth quarter while the Cougars would only succeed in adding one lone touchdown to their score to walk away with a disheartening 41-21 loss.

?-21 doesn't reflect the ball game at all." So said Head Coach Eric Gust after the Cougars arrived back in Bay City. At home next week, the Cougars will have their hands full with the mighty Lakers. Coach Gust says the Cougars have to "put this past us if we want to pull off an upset against Lakers."
