Cathie Ryan Coming to The Bay City State Theater, October 24, 2009

The Friends of Celtic Culture is proud to present Irish American Cathie Ryan with her crystalline vocals and insightful songwriting at Bay City's State Theatre, Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 PM.

Cathie is an original and distinctive voice in Celtic music. Since her acclaimed seven-year tenure as lead singer of Cherish the Ladies, the Detroit born Ryan has established herself as one of Celtic music's most popular and enduring singer-songwriters.

The Boston Globe recently wrote, "Cathie Ryan is a thrilling traditional vocalist whose honey-pure soprano is equally at home probing original ballads about a woman's place in the modern world."

$20 tickets are available at the State, 913 Washington Ave. 989-892-2660, Bay Arts Council, 915 Washington Ave. 989-893-0343, Konkle's Super Service on Center Ave. and the Columbus Avenue 7-Eleven Store.

Based in Ireland, Cathie Ryan has built a loyal following throughout Europe and North America by touring steadily and singing "songs of the heart." She communicates through songs of enduring values of home, family, memory, and spirit. Chicago's Irish American News named her "Irish Female Vocalist of the Decade."

Cathie Ryan has released four critically acclaimed CDs on Shanachie Records: Cathie Ryan, The Music of What Happens, Somewhere Along the Road, and her latest, The Farthest Wave. She is featured on more than forty compilations of Celtic Music. In 2003 Cathie was included in the famous Irish music collection, A Woman's Heart- A Decade On placing her among Irish music's finest female vocalists and songwriters.

As a special point of interest, FCC member Ann McGowan of Saginaw, Michigan will be in the audience on October 24 at the State Theatre. She and her late husband Bill have known Cathie Ryan since Cathie was eight years old when living in the Detroit, Michigan area. The FCC celebrates the reunion of Ann and Cathie that evening.
