"Once again, it's time for the truly gritty players to step out onto the gridiron." Those words were spoken by All Saints Pastor Fr. Robert Deland as his pre-game prayer officially kicked off All Saints' homecoming week. For the Senior girls, Sunday's powder-puff game represented their last chance to finally win their first Powder-Puff title - and that's exactly what they planed to do!

The Junior-Sophomores won the coin toss and began the game on offense, but it wasn't long before the Senior-Freshmen defenders forced them to surrender the ball on downs. Quarterback Stephanie Herman did what she could on offense, but after a disheartening incomplete pass the Seniors and Freshmen were forced to turn over the ball just as the first quarter came to an end.

The second quarter was a major coup for the Senior-Freshmen team. They went to work on offense with their eyes firmly set on the goal line. Things were going well defensively for the Junior-Sophomore team until the Senior-Freshmen pulled off the "play of the game." With the pressure on Brianne Tomczak behind the defensive line, Brianne waited till the last second, then quickly tossed the ball to Stephanie Herman who, in the confusion, ran the ball forward thirty yards. Seconds later, Brianne smashed through the Junior-Sophomore defense and put her team on the board 7-0. The Junior-Sophomores tried to re-group for one last rush before the end of the first half, but the merciless Senior-Freshmen defenders refused to budge.

During the brief halftime hiatus, the All Saints crowd enjoyed what is rumored to have been the final performance of Mr. Bob Spyhalski's infamous halftime polka dance. Dancing with his daughter, Senior Julie Spyhalski, Mr. Spyhalski pleased the crowd with his hilarious dance as he has does every year.

The third quarter was a stalemate for both teams. Struggling with the cold weather, and the obviously tight game going on out on the field, both teams failed to gain anymore headway on scoring another invaluable touchdown.

The fourth and final quarter more than made up for the scoreless third quarter however. On the second play of the final quarter, Dani Christensen, of the Junior-Sophomore team, left the Seniors and Freshmen stunned as they watched her run in a 50 yard tying touchdown.

With the score tied 7-7 and only three minutes left on the clock it looked as if the epic game was going to end up a draw. Not if future homecoming Queen Maria Dorion could help it. Gathering fellow Seniors and Freshmen around her she said "we didn't come here today to tie!" To her astonishment, on the next drive Julie Spyhalski evaded a tackle from Junior Brittany Burns and bolted forward for a Senior-Freshmen game-winning touchdown.

At the conclusion of the game Brad Sinicki was named this years King with Maria Dorian as Queen. All Saints will cap off this 41st Homecoming week with a Pep Rally and Parade on Friday before their match up against Sandusky at 7pm.
