Saturday night saw a rematch of Friday's heated contest with the Michigan Icedogs won by TriCity 5-4. While both teams were short handed due to Friday night's late game brawl, the action remained fast and furious as both teams left it all on the ice. In the end, it took a double deke with a wrister to the glove side to end the contest with the Icedogs winning 6-5.

TriCity came out aggressive on the puck putting early pressure on the Icedogs netminder, Matt Schnoes. This pressure drew a holding penalty giving the Icehawks the first power play of the game. It didn't take long before Mitchell Wood found Eric Tien sneaking in the back door. Wood's cross-ice pass was buried by Tien just past the outstretched legs of the goalie putting the Icehawks up 1-0.

The Icehawks kept the pressure on before Michigan's Kevin Edwards got behind the defense. On a quick transition play, he found himself one on one with the goalie slipping the puck by for goal making it 1-1.

Just over a minute later, Michigan took advantage of their first power play. The Icedogs Shane Olson deflected a Todd Burgess pass up and over the goalie's shoulder putting the Icedogs up 2-1 still in the first period.

The momentum clearly shifted to the Icedogs as TriCity committed back to back penalties to give Michigan two more power play opportunities. Goalie Austin Willenborg kept TriCity in the game early with strong goal tending providing a lift for his team. Soon David Higgs of TriCity knotted the score at 2 snapping a shot top shelf for his first Junior League goal.

TriCity opened the second period on the power play and took full advantage of the opportunity. Setting up in the slot, Mitchell Woods took a pass from Higgs finding himself behind the goalie and buried the shot giving the Icehawks a 3-2 lead.

But penalties gave the Icedogs the momentum as they held back to back power plays keeping TriCity from building on their lead. Half way through the period, Michigan's power play clicked again. Zach Standifer drove behind the net finding Edwards at the face-off dot. Edwards then hit Shane Olson at the backdoor for a goal tying the score at 3.

Edwards found the net again at the four minute mark of the second period. While both teams were playing a 4 on 4, Edwards knocked in a rebound putting the Icedogs up 4-3.

TriCity looked to tie up the score before the end of the period with some furious action. Spearheaded by the scrappy and intense skating of the Icehawks Warren Carter, TriCity had some great scoring chances but for the excellent goal tending by the Icedogs Matt Schnoes. While they didn't score, the effort was rewarded with a tripping penalty with nine seconds to play to allow the Icehawks to start the third period on the power play.

Between periods, the fans were treated to Mite hockey play. These 7 and 8 year olds showcased their talents with Erica Albrecht banging in a rebound from the side of the net to record the first goal of the Mite game. The Icehawks Friday night goaltender, Rocco Benvenuti, came out in full gear to lend some goal tending advice to the youngsters. Adding to this fun was a couple of the Hooter girls serving fresh corndogs to the patrons.

The Icehawks seized momentum in the third period thanks in part to the opening power play. Keeping the pressure on, James Odom scored for the Icehawks with a wrist shot off the face-off tying the score at 4. The momentum was short lived as Alex Truran received a 5 minute major for head butting on the goal and Michigan had a 5 minute power play. This advantage was short lived as Mitchell Wood drew the ire of Icedog's Todd Burgess as Wood stole the puck causing Burgess to react with a slash and putting both teams at 4 on 4. The action intensified even more with the open ice.

Michigan took the lead at the 13:22 mark when Todd Burgess shot right off the face-off with the shot going over the right shoulder of Willenborg for a goal. Mitchell Wood tied the game up with 2:45 to play. The high scoring forward reacted to a Tien shot rebound and buried it through the five hole for a game tying score.

The final two minutes of regulation was furious as the Icehawks controlled most of the play with crisp passing and snappy shots but Schnoes came up big for the Icedogs sending the game into overtime.

Neither team were able to score on the extra 5 minutes so it all came down to a shootout. Mitchell Wood scored first for the Icehawks with a nice move. Wood deked right, went left then pulled the puck back right around the sliding goalie for the first goal for either team. But Michigan responded when Brandon Kaput slipped one under the pads to tie the shootout. Then Kevin Edwards finished off the scoring with a nifty double deke then snapped a wrist shot over the outstretched glove of the goalie for the win.

With the loss, the Icehawks find themselves in fifth place, two points out of third. Their next home game is Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14 as they take on the Illinois Frontenacs at the Bay City Ice Arena. Game time is 7:30. Come join the fun as this is great hockey action and you have a front row seat.
