The Vaudeville Show - Bay City State Theater - November 18, 2009

For its third year the State Theatre proudly presents The Vaudeville Show on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 7:00 PM

In the best traditions of vaudeville, fourteen acts will deliver non-stop laughs and gasps in just under two hours. This year's featured performers are:

Gene Anderson (Midland, MI) ' The show's producer and director, Gene has performed his newspaper act professionally in 21 countries on six continents. He has been awarded seven first-prize trophies in magic competitions and was nominated for two Academy Awards by the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood. Gene will also emcee the show and sweep up after.

Shelby Avery (Midland, MI) - Sweet sixteen and Broadway bound, Shelby has had eight years of private voice lessons, has soloed three times with the Bijou Orchestra and has been in thirteen area theatre productions. She was Top Ten at Miss Michigan's Outstanding Teen ('08 and '09), she sings in two high school vocal groups, and in college she plans to major in vocal performance or musical theatre.

Stephen Bargatze (Nashville, TN) - Back by popular demand, Stephen is the most outrageous and baffling comedy magician on the entertainment circuit. He has opened for Bill Cosby, Garth Brooks, Barbara Mandrel and Ray Stevens, won numerous magic awards and in August won an unprecedented second Crandall Comedy Award for his performances at Abbott's Magic Get-Together.

Bob Bloenk (Bay City, MI) - 'Bay City Bob' has long been an audience favorite, and for very good reason: he's an inimitable songster and just plain funny. Bob proudly claims to have performed on both coasts, adding that's Port Huron and Ludington. In truth he's traveled the country, and it's his third time on bill for The Vaudeville Show. That's easily explained: he's the co-producer.

Andrew Eisengruber (Sebewaing, MI) - This youthful Master of the Serenade has sung and acted in more than twenty community plays in the mid-Michigan area. He worked with Kevin Cole in 'A Shine on Your Shoes' and has sung in two Bijou Orchestra concerts. Charismatic and funny, Andy especially loves novelty songs that showcase his voice and humor.

Rick Merrill (Grand Rapids, MI) - Rick represented the United States at the 2006 World Championships of Magic in Stockholm, Sweden to win the title of World Champion in Close-Up Magic. That event occurs every three years to select the best-of-the-best in the world of magic. He's now performed in more than a dozen countries. So how did we get him? Simple. He's the producers' pal!

Howard Mincone (Pittsburgh, PA) - Take a physical comedian, a juggler and a super entertainer with boundless energy, mix them all together and what do you have? The very funny and amazing Howard Mincone! Strongly influenced by Harpo Marx, Jackie Gleason, Red Skelton and Dick Van Dyke, Howard's hilarious performances have made one of the most sought-after entertainers on the continent and the perfect addition to The Vaudeville Show lineup.

John Hill (Swartz Creek, MI) - The drummer and percussionist in the Bijou Orchestra, John is a busy professional musician and instructor. He was a hit as the opening act on last year's Vaudeville Show, and we prevailed on him to offer another of his novelty percussion numbers. You'll know it immediately, but it's unlikely that you have ever seen it performed live like this!
