The Frankenmuth Farmers Market marks five years of food, fun, and farming festivities with the fifth annual Christkindlmarkt, a traditional European-style Christmas market on Thanksgiving Weekend at the Market's regular location, near Cass and Main Streets in Downtown Frankenmuth.

The Christkindlmarkt 2009 schedule below - Heated tent, Free Admission

  • Friday, November 27; 10am-8pm
  • Saturday, November 28; 10am-7pm
  • Sunday, November 29; 10am-5pm

  • Offering locally produced foods, gifts, art, and more, the festively themed Market ensures shopper's dollars are kept circulating in the local economy while preserving our farmers, artisans, and their trades.

A food-focused farmers market at heart, the Christkindlmarkt features Hickory Hill Chestnut Farm (who will, yes, be roasting chestnuts over an open fire), Miller Family Orchard, 4-H, Frankenmuth Fudge and roasted nuts, Butter Crust Bakery candies and treats, Schwarzkopf and Keilhofer German delights, the Original Strudel Company, and superb gourmet sauces from Six Lugs cherry products, Uncle Bob, and Sansonetti's.

Décor and gifts include Hoffman Farms woven fresh greens, garlands, and wreaths, Kapow Soap and dog treats, Jenny Lund's fused glass jewelry and demonstrations, Great Lakes Emu Products, Wild Birds Unlimited, Debbie Zona's dried flowers, Farmbrook Design's garden art and hypertufa, Glassy Gal's recycled glass art, Vicky Carpenter's painted ornaments, Tom Reynold's stained glass, Jacque Beyer's painted ornaments, Bonnie Dula's dolls and art, Honeycombe Jewelry, Sammie Taylor character dolls, Will Rodgers carved wood, Mary Blossom's paintings, Alison Smith's natural skin care, Frankenmuth Sister City gifts, and more.

Nestled amongst Frankenmuth's many shops, a visit offers one-stop shopping at its best. McClellan Properties, Nuechterlein Electric, and Schluckebier Oil are generously donating the Market's location, lighting, and heat.

To support the Toys for Tots toy drive held at McDonald's of Frankenmuth, the Market will serve as another drop-off spot for the campaign. The Market is also partnering with the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA) and Learn Great Foods to offer a 'Festive Seasonings' meet-the-vendors tour before proceeding to Black Forest Brew Haus for cooking demos, presentations on preserving food, and a fantastic five-course meal of local, preserved Market food with beer pairings by Market president Dietrich Bronner.

The tour and dinner take place 3-8pm Saturday, November 28 with a limited supply of $50 tickets ($40 for MIFMA members) available at www.learngreatfoods.com or 866.240.1650., with proceeds benefiting MIFMA (www.farmersmarkets.msu.edu).

Visitors are also invited to experience the Lighting Ceremony in Frankenmuth's River Place at 6:30pm Friday, November 27. Parking can be found behind the Market in the parking lot shared with Zehnder's Restaurant.

Interested individuals may receive the Market's weekly email newsletter by emailing dbronner@chartermi.net. To learn more, please visit www.frankenmuthfarmersmarket.org.
