Are YOU Tough Enough?
TOUGHMAN (Doppelbock) BEER is a beer menu item brewed at the Lumber Barons brew-house located inside the Dore Riverview Complex on Historic Midland Street, Bay City.
Doppelbocks are a German lager.
According to Marty Rapnicki, Director of Brewery Operations at Lumber Barons, the style goes back to the days when monks were doing all the brewing.
Monks had to fast during lent but they could drink what ever they wanted.
So, they made a beer that is very malty and full bodied having a couple of beers satisfied them.
The style is still around today and the tradition of naming Doppelbock's with a "ator" subfix (the last part of the name) is common. Also, common is a goat on the label.
The Toughman Dopplebock has been available at Lumber Barons but is now also available at Hooters and Duso's Bar, both also located on Midland Street, Bay City.
Rapnicki said, "The Toughman Beer name is Art's (Dore) 'claim to fame' The 8% was my idea. The name gave me the idea to make it STRONG in alcohol."
(Above) Toughman BEER shirts are now available at locations where ever the toughman beer is sold. And also at the website link below!
