Ballots are out for the 14th Annual Bay County Sports Hall of Fame Induction, to be held at a banquet Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Grand.
An added attraction at this year's banquet will be a silent auction of sports memorabilia and otheritems, according to O.J. Cunningham, president of the Hall of Fame board. Donations are sought for the auction under the group's tax exempt 501 (c) 3 IRS designation. Contact Vaughn Begick, 686-0578 to make a donation.
Members currently are selecting this year's seven inductees from lists of 18 living and five deceased nominees. Ballots must be returned by June 12.
Living nominees are:
William Badour, football, Garber High and Adrian College;
Clinton Bean, softball, five state championships, All American, member, Michigan Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame;
Katherine Blumenstein, volleyball, Central High, Western Michigan University, Mid-American Conference champion;
Tom Cramer, diving, All American and two-time state champion at Garber High, two-time NCAA All American at Michigan State University;
Walt Davis, football, St. Mary two-time All State, All American at Northwood University;
Al Doty, coaching football and track, Pinconning and Western High and Saginaw Valley State University, three-time regional coach of the year in football once in track;
Joe Garrett, track, state champion at Handy High, MAC long jump conference champion at Central Michigan University, Olympic contender in 1995;
Harold Holcomb, tennis coaching, Garber High seven time regional coach of the year, state coach of the year, seven regional championships, state tennis coaches hall of fame;
Bob Learman Jr., tennis, All Saints High three sport star, 1974 state tennis singles champion, three MAC conference championships at Western Michigan University;
Thomas Muir, wrestling, Handy High and Michigan State University, 160 pound Big Ten Champion, two-time alternate on U.S. Olympic Team;
Rodney Pafford, golf, Central High and University of Michigan, sixth in Big Ten, five-time Bay County champion;
John Pike, basketball, All Saints, Delta College, Hillsdale College, All State, All League, head basketball coach, U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School and assistant coach,U.S. Military Academy;
Larry Piotrowski, football, Central High All State and All American, University of Michigan;
Gary Roth, softball, pitcher on recreation team that finished seventh in national tournament;
Jim Schultz, track/field and football, Western High three-time state finalist and league record holder in discus, Western Michigan University, state champion, competed in several international games;
Bill Seidenstucker, Sr., baseball coach, co-founder Little League and Pony League, coached state champion American Legion team, softball association president, state softball commissioner;
Joe Todey, football and track coach, Garber High, 1996 State Athletic Director of the Year, Michigan High School Athletic Association awardee;
Stitch Wizner, 82-year-old winning pitcher of 601 blooperball games in rec leagues.
Deceased nominees:
Adolph Begick, baseball manager; Jim Doyle, girls track coach; Don Pabalis, football/basketball/baseball; Beth Pawlak, softball; Wayne Wilson, football/baseball.
