Local Artisans' Work Highlights Christmas Marketplace at Pere Marquette

The weather was a bit nippy but the spirit of the season warmed the crowds at the 2009 Holiday Parlour Tour hosted by the Center Avenue Neighborhood Association.

Several other tours held in recent days, including those in Saginaw and Midland, may have kept attendance down somewhat, but tour organizers were not unhappy with the turnout.

The new location of the Christmas Marketplace in the Pere Marquette Depot was a hit as visitors browsed a dozen booths and chatted with vendors and hosts.

The tour featured:

The Historic Webster House, owned by Dr. Steven and Deborah Ingersoll, a stately three-story Queen Anne style;

The Rick and Mary Drzyga home, 110 Boehringer Court, designed by Architect Glenn Beach and built in 1958 for attorney David King and Vera King;

Thumb National Bank & Trust Co., 708 Center Ave., the former main branch of the Bay County Library System, a 1922 neoclassical building partially financed by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation which dictated the architectural style;

The home of Joel and Sue LaBrie, 1515 Fifth Ave., built in 1893 by Col. Henry S. Raymond, veteran commander of the 23rd Michigan Infantry in the Civil War;

The home of Richard and Sandy Black, 2222 McKinley Ave., a Colonial Revival built in 1954 for Wesley and Margaret Timm;

The office of attorney Ed Czuprynski, of Bay Justice Associates, 814 Monroe St., an Italianate three story built in 1878 by architect James Shearer and renovated recently by contractor Roy Bradley; and

The Victorian Revival home of Amy Rushman and Kim Brissette, 2150 Third St., recreating the warmth and charm of an early 1900s farm home.

The Christmas Marketplace featured handcrafted gifts by local artisans, jewelry, home furnishings, Christmas ornaments, holiday decorations, clothing, food, gourmet coffees and sweets. Admission to the marketplace was free.
