"Bay Area On The Go" Expo Wednesday Kicks Off New Hotel-Conference Center

How to expand Bay City's already dynamic downtown condominium developments will be a main focus of Wednesday's "Bay Area On The Go" development expo at the DoubleTree.
 

      Companies planning development projects in Bay County and the area will be the prime movers in a history-making event Wednesday, June 9, in Bay City.

      Finally, 27 years after the tragic fire destruction of the Wenonah Hotel, downtown hub for almost 70 years, Bay City has a new major hotel-conference center opening to provide a center for business development and tourism.

           A capacity crowd of more than 500 is expected to attend Wednesday's opening event at the DoubleTree Hotel Bay City Riverfront. The development expo hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

      "Bay Area on The Go" development expo sponsored by the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce has been sold out for weeks, according to chamber officials.


      Keynote speaker is Donald Jakeway, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

      Presentations that are expected to provide significant news include:      
  • Christopher Bowyer, Dow Corning vice president and general manager of core products business, speaking on the firm's expansion project in Williams Township;

          
  • A forum with MEDC, city, county and township economic development leaders providing information on economic development incentives;

          
  • A forum on downtown development initiatives featuring Candace Bales, Downtown Management Board; Betsy Dean, Studio 23, and Jim Reid, Bay Area Renaissance;

          
  • City Manager Robert Belleman with an overview of "Uptown at RiversEdge," and other city development plans and investment opportunities;

          
  • Cliff Van Dyke, president of the Bay County Growth Alliance, discussing investment and development opportunities for businesses in Valley Center Technology Park, Monitor Township.

          Special recognition will be given to businesses for significant developments and renovations in the past year.

          Exhibitor booths manned by local economic development officialswill provide information about investing in the Bay area.

          Sponsors of the event are The Dow Chemical Co. and National City Bank in association with WNEM-TV 5 and the DoubleTree Hotel-Bay City Riverfront.
