It is always high energy basketball when Bridgeport comes to the Garber floor. But while the pace was intense, the Dukes could not slow down the talented Bearcats as Bridgeport blasted to a 71-23 win.

The game started as expected, fast and athletic. Bridgeport displayed a smothering trapping press that slowed the Garber effort. While the Dukes were able to find the open man, their inability to hit the shot allowed Bridgeport to take charge. In contrast, the Bearcats were hot striking from all areas of the floor. It was Mike Schroeder's crashing of the boards netting 6 points that kept the Dukes in the game,. 18-8, at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter became the Derek Davis show. The talented senior guard seemingly scored at will with outside jumpers and penetrating drives for easy above the rim lay-ins. In a blink of an eye, Bridgeport built a 32-8 lead half way through the second quarter. Only Davis' taking a seat on the bench slowed the Bearcat scoring down as they took a 38-14 lead into halftime.

The third quarter turned into a Bridgeport explosion. A stripping man to man press blew the game wide open at 50-17 after only 3 minutes of play. The outburst was punctuated by a Derek Davis power jam.

The Bearcats pulled off the press and the game turned into an old fashion shootout. Unfortunately for Garber, most of the Bearcat shots hit their mark as Bridgeport mounted a 64-23 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Throughout the game the Dukes showed a lot of character and heart. They continued to fight for every rebound and contest every shot. But the Bearcat players had too many skill as they ran away with a 71-23 victory.

Derek Davis led all scorers with 27 points with Kyle Hampton knocking down 15 and Lamont Mast adding 10.

Garber was led by Mike Schroeder and Travis Britko's six points.
