Bridgeport entered the contest with the reputation of being a much improved team. For the first eight minutes, the Lady Bearcats showed why. But Garber clamped down the defense and exploded on offense to run their record to 5-0 in defeating Bridgeport, 56-24.

Bridgeport came out with a ball control offense relying heavily on Amber Thomas dribbling skills. Garber's Molly Braun kept the Bearcat point guard from penetrating the lane as Bridgeport held the opening tip-off for over a minute and 15 seconds before scoring them employed a press that kept Garber off balance as the Bearcats built a 7-1 lead in the first quarter. Then Garber got its game into gear.

Turning to their own press, the Lady Dukes took Bridgeport out of their game and turned Garber's on. Forced turnovers became quick baskets and the Lady Dukes got rolling. Following the leadership of senior point guard Molly Braun, quick passes found open players especially Ashton Morse who scored three quick baskets.

The inside game of Morse coupled with Molly Braun's hot outside shooting put Garber on a 15-2 run to post a 16-9 lead half way through the second quarter. Following Bridgeport's Jessica Sutto's lone free throw, Garber went back on a 13-0 run to finish the quarter with a 29-10 halftime lead.

Garber started the third quarter right where they left off. Tough defensive pressure led to turnovers and fast breaks. The combination resulted in Garber out scoring Bridgeport 17-6 to build a 43-16 lead heading into the final quarter.

Garber went deep into their bench as both teams kept up the intensity. And while the final result was not in doubt, both teams played as if it was tied. In the end, Garber recorded a 56-24 win.

The Lady Dukes were led by Molly Braun who scored 14 points with Kara Brewer hitting 10 and Ashton Morse adding 8.

Bridgeport was led by Cynthia Moore's six points while teammate Brittany Butler added five points.
