Devendorf in his earlier playing days.

Eric Devendorf, former Syracuse University basketball sparkplug guard, broke through with 11 points for the Reno Bighorns against the Idaho Stampede on New Year's Day.

But the glass ball of 2010 came crashing down immediately as the NBA D-League Reno waived Devo before the Monday, Jan. 4 game.

Syracuse University bloggers have Devo and another Orange star, Paul Harris, signing multi-million dollars deals in Europe soon.

Devo's swan song came as the Idaho Stampede stormed to a 123-109 New Year's Day victory over the Reno Bighorns in the Reno Events Center.

Devendorf, who had scored just two points in his first appearance, had what appeared to be a pretty good night for a rookie. He racked up double figures off the bench and played 20:22, hitting 4-of-7 shots from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line for his 11 points.

Why Reno waived Devo appears at present to be a mystery, especially in view of his performance on New Years.

One reason may be that Dave Noel, 6-3, 205 pound guard from Central Florida, whom Devo apparently replaced, has returned to the Bighorn roster. Noel was waived for injury in late December.

On December 26, 2009, Devendorf signed with the Reno Bighorns of the NBDL. In his debut on Dec. 26, Devendorf played 14:33 and scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting as Reno defeated Tulsa.

Devendorf played three games for the NBA Development League team and averaged 4.7 points in 11.8 minutes.

Bloggers noted that Devo was officially gone from the Bighorn roster as posted online at nba/futurecast.com.

Orange basketball bloggers at Syracuse said Devo and Harris have deals in the works to play in Europe and have lucrative contracts pending. The veracity of those reports are not confirmed.
