Wednesday night, Pinconning brought their high powered team into Garber's gym for a non-league contest. The match-up showcased two very talented and athletic teams. Fitting of their rivalry, the game went down to the wire as Garber pulled out a 58-55 win.

The game started with both teams working their offenses, looking for open shots. It was clear from the beginning that the two big men, Pinconning's Lucas Foco and Garber's Mike Schroeder would affect the inside game.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to a couple put backs by Lucas Foco. It wasn't until there was just over three minutes left in the quarter that Garber would dent the scoreboard when Todd Walraven drained a three pointer. The basket sparked a 12-0 Duke run with Garber finishing the quarter holding a 12-6 lead.

The second quarter was both teams loosen up. Pinconning unleashed there three point fire power as junior Dylan Marquiss drained three 3 point shots to help bring the Spartans back. When the dust settled, Pinconning held a 19-18 halftime lead.

Wild is the best way to describe the third period. Each team spread out their offense opening up lanes in the key. While the big men battled, wings and forwards slashed to the basket. Garber looked to push the ball up court which rewarded their efforts with easy baskets. But it was Todd Walraven's leaping ability and Jesse Kenniston's hot hand that pulled Garber ahead 42-29 to end the third quarter. Walraven scored 9 third quarter points to go along with Kenniston's 7.

But the Spartans were not about to go quietly into the night. Led by Casey Pashak, he ignited the Spartan offense scoring eleven fourth quarter points. Then Dylan Marquiss regained his three point touch and when Lucas Foco powered his way for two, Pinconning had emerged with a 51-49 lead with just less than two minutes to play.

Having lost their thirteen point lead, it was time for a Duke response. Mike Schroeder started things off by knocking down a 15 foot jumper to tie the game. Then Jesse Kenniston put Garber ahead with a nice three pointer.

Pinconning got to within one point before Travis Britko stepped to the foul line and sank both three throw shots with 16 seconds left to put Garber back up by three. Casey Pashak tried to bring the Spartans even with a three point shot which was just short but he quickly put the shot in for two and Pinconning immediately fouled Kenniston with 1 second to play.

Kenniston made both free throws seemingly sealing the game. But you never count the Spartans out. Pashak took the inbound pass and showing his quarterbacking skills, threw what looked like a perfect ball at the basket only to fall just short of the mark giving Garber an exciting 58-55 win.

Todd Walraven led Garber with 17 points with Jesse Kenniston stroking 16 and Mike Schroeder scoring 10.

Casey Pashak led Pinconning with 21 points while Lucas Foco scored 19 and Dylan Maquiss knocked down 5 three pointers to tally 15 points.
