Buena Vista Overpowers Central, 86-53 In Boys Basketball Action

Everyone dreams of beating a top team. No doubt, Central had those thoughts in mind as they took on the fourth ranked Buena Vista Tuesday night. The Knights quickly erased those thoughts as they blitzed out to a 44 to 16 halftime lead en route to an 86-53 victory.

From the opening tip-off, the Buena Vista Knights used speed and agility to jump on top of Central. Led by Derrick Washington's 10 first quarter points, the Knights put Central in a big 23-7 first quarter hole.

The second period was much the same. A ball swiping defense kept Central from getting on track as the Knights held the Wolves to nine points in the quarter. Meanwhile, senior DeVante Jackson led the way for Buena Vista pumping in eleven of the teams 21 second quarter points sending the Knights into the halftime locker room with a 44 to 16 lead.

Both teams got everyone involved in the second half. Central's halftime adjustments got their offense rolling. Try as they might, they were only able to trade basket for basket in an entertaining quarter of basketball. Led by senior guard Cameron Sullivan's 8 quarter points, the Wolves tallied for 19 points in the third quarter. But Buena Vista's junior guard, George Goodman, kept the Knights offense rolling as he scored 14 points himself to increase Buena Vista's lead to 66-35.

Scoring for both teams continued in the final quarter. All 13 players for BV found the score sheet as the Knights added 20 more points in the final stanza. Central countered with 18 points of their own as 11 of their players rippled the net for an 86-53 final score.

Buena Vista was led by George Goodman's 28 points. DeVante Jackson added 17 points with Derrick Washington, 12, and George Smithers, 10, both reaching double figures.

Cameron Sullivan paced Central with 14 points while Deon Martin chipped in with 13 points.
