Garber Girls Dig Deep To Beat North Branch, 58-45

The Killer B's ( Brewer 17 and Braun 16) Led the Scoring for the Lady Dukes

After a strong and promising start to the season, the Lady Dukes found themselves mired in the throws of a four game losing streak.

Thursday's game against North Branch not only gave Garber a chance at redemption for "one that got away" earlier in the season, it was also a chance to win on their final home game of the year. And when foul trouble limited playing time of some starters, the Duke bench stepped forward to help lead Garber to a solid 58-45 win.

It was a very low scoring first quarter as quick whistles kept neither team from getting into an offensive rhythm. North Branch kept defensive pressure on the Dukes as they rotated from a full court press to a half court trap. Two late drives to the basket by Molly Braun knotted the score at 8 a piece.

Garber started the second quarter with a spark from Braun. Stealing the ball, she hit Caitlyn Keuvelaar with a half court pass for a lay-up. Then Kara Brewer stole the inbounds pass and scored giving the Dukes a quick 12-8 start. Both teams adjusted to the tight whistles as play opened up making for a faster paced game. Brewer got hot scoring eight in the quarter only to be matched by Morgan Vauter's six points. Molly Braun finished Garber's scoring with a nice drive to the basket for a 25-20 half time lead.

Garber started the second half energetic. Behind the Killer B's of Braun and Brewer, the Lady Dukes drove and stole their way to a 12 point lead. Nicole Wood and Molly Braun each scored six in the quarter to literally shoot Garber in front, 44-32 entering the fourth quarter.

Strong bench performances by Caitlyn Keuvelaar and LaShae Radeka complimented starters Katie Neering and Ashton Morse as Garber dominated the inside game. Braun, Brewer and Wood handled the perimeter with key help from Sara Morosi and Kortney Zimmerman. In the end, Garber held off a late charge by the Broncos led by Kelsey Roloson's eight points for a 58-45 Garber win.

The Killer B's of Brewer and Braun accounted for 17 and 16 points respectively while Nicole Wood dropped in 12.

North Branch was led by Morgan Vauter's 14 points with Kelsey Roloson adding 12.
