My clock faces never look happy to see me looking at them.
(NOTE: By the time most of you read this, the big "spring ahead" moment will be old news. But I'm sure many of you will still be muddling around trying to get the clock on your coffee pot, microwave or oven to be correct.)
You know that hour of sleep you gained last fall when you turned your clocks back an hour? Well, it's time to give it back, at 2:00AM Sunday morning, March 14th!
(For most of us, that means re-setting all of our clocks and wristwatches before we go to bed on Saturday night). At that time, SPRING AHEAD ONE HOUR, as Daylight Savings Time begins here in Mid-Michigan and most other locations across the U.S. and Canada.
My wristwatch is the one timepiece that causes me the most grief. I think I have three or four "modes" and at least three different time zones buried in there somewhere.
I used to know how to set the alarm too . . . but now I just let my cell phone wake me and/or remind me of important moments in the day's schedule.
It usually takes about an hour to reset all the clocks in my world one hour ahead . . . so the clock move (bottom line) will actually claim more like two hours out of my Sunday.
Most cell phones, computers, and some car clocks set to satellite radio will automatically reset to the correct time overnight - but please check Sunday morning to be sure.
The Bay City Fire Department reminds you that the time change should remind you to check your batteries in your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors, as well as emergency items such as flashlights and portable emergency radios.
The purpose of DST -- also known as "Summer Time" is to extend daylight by an hour in the afternoons during spring, summer, and much of the fall. To learn about the rationale behind this concept, click

Just as a point of interest . . . Fall back (this year) will be November 7, 2010. The return to Standard Time (ST) begins at 2:00 am local time in the U.S. on the first Sunday in November, which in 2010 is November 7.
