The Cougars were the favored team going into Friday night's showdown with Michigan Lutheran Seminary. Despite that assumption, the Cougars knew the MLS Cardinals would hit them with everything in their arsenal.

The Cougars muscled their way to a 10-4 lead with excellent rebounding and persistence in their offensive zone, but the Cardinals fought with some offense of their own to cut the Cougars lead to 10-9 at the end of the first period.

The Cougars would have been outgunned in the second period had it not been for the Cougar wearing number 23. All Saints' Drew Janer took the helm of the Cougars and successfully knotted up the game, then gave is team a six point cushion over the Cardinals before the end of the first half. Down 16-13, Janer tacked three points onto the board with one of his three second period three-pointers to tie the game. From there, Janer went on to record eight more points as the Cougars surged to a 24-18 point lead.

MLS's desperation was evident in the third period. The Cougars scored an early two points, but then suffered eight unanswered lay-ups as the Cardinals battled their way to a 26-26 deadlock. The Cougars answer was swift and decisive - the Cougars only allowed the Cardinals to record two more points, while they added 11 points to their point total. The Cougars headed into the final period up 37-28.

The first few minutes of the final period were a nightmare for the Cougars. The Cardinals desperate offense pushed to within 4 points of retying the game. That's when Senior Adam Pijaszek #20 was awarded a technical foul after protesting a 'questionable' call on the previous play. Rather than let that get in his way, Pijaszek; along with the rest of the Cougars, used the technical call as fuel for their offensive machine. Pijaszek, after being shutout for two periods, rebounded with 10 points; and Thomas Villano #41and Drew Janer combined for 11 free-throw points. In the end, the Cougars out shot the Cardinals 25 to 19 points in the final period to secure another District Title and their ticket to the next round of the playoffs.

"We responded with toughness, that, and Drew Janer." That's what All Saints Coach Mike Showalter said about the pressure put on them by the Cardinals. Showalter claims his team was "just a little nervous" in the opening half. The Cougars will begin their march through the Regional tournament on Monday, and; if they can "stay focused" as Drew Janer said, they may very well capture their second straight Regional title.
