Midland to Host National Junior Tennis Tournament Beginning Saturday
All Players in Boys and Girls Age 14 Competition Are Nationally Ranked
The Midland Community Tennis Center is the site for the USTA Boys & Girls 14's National Open July 3-7, featuring a 64-player draw for each age division and free viewing for the public.
Ten players in the boy's division are ranked in the nation's top 100, while five girls are similarly ranked.
Tournament action will offer both singles and doubles competition. Play begins Saturday, July 3 at 8 a.m. on the MCTC's 16 out-door courts. In the event of inclement weather, thecompetition will move inside the Center.
An unusual aspect of the tournament is that all 64 girls in the 14's are nationally-ranked. Players from 24 states including California, Texas, New York Florida, Kansas and Kentucky, will participate.
The MCTC's Wendy Franz (USPTA) is tournament director. Dan Peric of Midland is head referee. Food and refreshments will be available for fans, players, parents and coaches.
