The Frankenmuth Farmers Market starts its sixth year of food, fun, and festivity on Saturday, May 22, 2010 in downtown Frankenmuth.

With the mission to entertain, enrich, and educate growers and consumers as they trade local products and information, the Market runs 8am-2pm Saturdays May 22 to October 16, with a Christkindlmarkt (traditional European Christmas Market) to span the course of both Thanksgiving Weekend and the following weekend, November 27-29 and December 3-5. Free parking is behind the Market, near Cass and Main Streets.

The Frankenmuth Farmers Market (FFM) is a producer-only market, with a few board-approved items offering increased diversity. This strongly benefits the local economy while live music sponsored by Frankenmuth Credit Union, adult and children events, and artists create a festival of community each market day. Last year, the Market held the World's First Drive-Thru Farmers Market at McDonald's in Frankenmuth, sold out a local foods dinner on November 28 in partnership with national tour group Learn Great Foods, served as Grand Marshal of Frankenmuth's Bavarian Festival Parade, hosted WSGW's 'Listen to the Mrs.,' donated over 1,000 pounds of food to East Side Soup Kitchen, and was named one of ten 'must see' markets in Michigan by Michigan Travel Ideas magazine.

2010 promises to be another fantastic year as everyone focuses on local food. Monthly special events, a to-be-announced weekday Market, the publishing of a mid-summer Market Magazine, and the expanded Christkindlmarkt will mark the Market's continued growth in its sixth year. All consumers are invited to take an online survey at www.frankenmuthfarmersmarket.org to offer their input and also join an e-newsletter list by emailing dbronner@chartermi.net.

The Market is looking for set-up, take-down, and booth volunteers, as well as $25 or $50 donations to the Frankenmuth Farmers Market to sponsor daily events or entire market days. Donations can be mailed to Laurajeanne Kehn, 11585 King Road, Frankenmuth, MI 48734. Market offerings include fresh, local produce, fresh coffee and soup, organic breads and grains, hand-made soaps, baked goods, herbs, bedding and potted plants, flowers, native Michigan plant species, other spring goods, and more.

Free live music, informational events, children's activities, and local artists every Saturday make for a very interactive Market as producers and consumers exchange fresh, local products while educating each other, inspiring community, and keeping our rural heritage alive.

The market is a proud charter member of the Michigan Farmers Market Association. FFM Chair Dietrich Bronner also chairs the board of directors for the state association. Farmers, markets, organizations, and consumers can join 'MIFMA' to help move farmers markets forward by visiting www.farmersmarkets.msu.edu.
