Thanks to the 2010 Class of Leadership Bay County, Your Bay Area Chamber of Commerce "Opportunity Connection" website is being revamped to make it more accessible and user-friendly.
Opportunity Connection (www.opportunityconnection.net) is a one stop, free resource designed to connect Bay County students, teachers, parents and employees. The website is designed to offer hundreds of opportunities provided by local businesses such as job shadowing, field trips, mentors, career day speakers and awards/incentives.
A beneficial feature of the site is it streamlines requests made to area employers by channeling requests to the proper school contact. Announcements can also be posted about special events or requests.
The site also provides opportunities to connect to other websites, resources and information related to youth, education and career opportunities.
Leadership Bay County is a program of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. It is designed to provide knowledge and motivation needed to lead the Bay Area in efforts to help make this community even greater than it is today.
The ten month program began in September with a two-day retreat at Higgins Lake and will end in June with a graduation ceremony.
Day long sessions on Agriculture; History; Human Needs & Services; Local Government; Economic Development; Education; Public Safety & the Legal System; Arts & Culture; and Natural Resources are included in the Leadership Bay County program.
Participants are challenged to exercise what they learn as they choose and execute a class project. This year's group, the 23rd Class of Leadership Bay County, chose to improve and completely reconstruct "Opportunity Connection" as one means to help improve the quality of education in the Bay Area.
