    Celebration of the Great Lakes:
A Multimedia Concert Featuring Stories of our Maritime Past With singer/songwriter Dan Hall and author/producer Ric Mixter July 16th, 2010 State Theatre in Bay City A one-of-a-kind concert performance is coming to Bay City during the Tall Ship Celebration downtown.

Musician Dan Hall and PBS documentary producer Ric Mixter are teaming up to share insight into the maritime past of the Great Lakes and Bay City's incredible contributions to that history. The audience will not only hear Dan Hall's ballads that chronicle the era of steamship and sail, but also see rare footage and interviews from Ric Mixter's many documentaries. From the Great Gales to the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the State Theatre will come alive with stories of terrifying tragedy and miraculous survivals. Ric says this is the first time the duo will perform together for a mid-Michigan audience. Bay City's history is amazing, from the world-class shipbuilders to the sailors who called this area home. Visitors to Tall Ship Celebration will not only be mesmerized by the show, but learn why our lakes are so important.

Bay City boasts some of the largest wooden ships ever built, and the launch of what would be the third largest shipwreck on the lakes. The ship that found the Titanic is also from a Bay City shipyard. Dan Hall's vocals are known internationally. His songs have appeared on documentaries and two maritime CD's that are in a class all by themselves. Great Lakes Cruiser Magazine said Dan Hall's CD, 1000 ft. Keel, is a watershed recording which raises the bar for all future maritime music. It is the Sergeant Pepper of its genre.

Ric Mixter has created over 30 historical documentaries for PBS and has appeared on the History and Discovery Channels. He was recently awarded for 20 years of maritime storytelling by the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History. His adventures include dives to over 100 shipwrecks including the Edmund Fitzgerald, as well as high flying adventures in jet fighters and bombers. His new book The Wheelsmen is an eye-witness look at four incredible stories of shipwreck survival. Ric has interviewed survivors from the largest shipwrecks in lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie, and will feature many of these stories during Celebration of the Great Lakes. The event is sponsored by the Bay County Historical Society.

Ric Mixter: Millions of television viewers recognize Ric Mixter as a shipwreck researcher, diving over 100 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, including the Edmund Fitzgerald. He has produced over 30 programs for PBS and the Outdoor Channel, and appeared as a shipwreck expert on the History and Discovery Channels. He leads the pack when it comes to sharing our unique underwater resources with the general public, and thousands of dive show patrons and countless school kids know him as the energetic story teller who uses video like no other presenter can. Recently Ric was awarded for over two decades of maritime history preservation with the 2009 Award for Historic Interpretation by the Association for Great Lakes Maritime Historians. Mixter served as SCUBA cameraman on underwater expeditions to the Great Lakes largest shipwrecks, the Edmund Fitzgerald and Carl D. Bradley. He has interviewed dozens of shipwreck survivors over the past 15 years, including two from the 1913 Storm, two from the 1940 Armistice Day Storm and survivors from the largest shipwrecks in lakes Michigan, Huron and Erie.

Today he runs his own production company, Airworthy Productions. He's been Emmy nominated and has taken several awards including the Addy, Aurora, Michigan Association of Broadcasters Best Use of Medium, AP, UPI and was the 2007 Vescio award winner for a video on mental health advocacy. Ric is also a pilot, flying not only single engine planes but also has time in several military jets including the F-16 Falcon, and over 100 hours of camera work in the B-52 Strato-Fortress. He's flown in the Goodyear Blimp and countless biplanes and aerobatic aircraft and has also jumped several times from over 12,000 feet as a skydiver. Ric also adept to filming in helicopters, from flying over the jungles of Honduras with the Army to being lowered in a rescue basket into Lake Huron by the Coast Guard.

Mixter has also been featured in several books including Fitzgerald's Storm by Dr. Joe MacInnis, Voices of the Lakes by Steve Harrington, and Wreck of the Carl D. by Michael Schumacher. Ric's motivational story was also profiled in a feature-length documentary by Beacon Media in 2009 called Anything But Ordinary. He also tours the Great Lakes region as a motivational speaker at schools and colleges and was accepted as a Michigan Arts and Humanities touring story-teller in 2009.

Final Run: Storms of the Century 2005

Safe Ashore: The 1940 Armistice Day Storm 2004 Great Lakes In Depth (26 episodes on PBS and the Outdoor Channel) 2000-2001

Dan Hall: Dan Hall takes common themes and finds unique ways to blend them into uncommonly good music. The Michigan native has been performing in many venues since the age of 10, pursuing traditional and non-traditional outlets for his surging creativity and unstoppable enthusiasm. His impish sense of humor, with a stand-up comic's sense of timing and an impersonator's facial flexibility, helps him connect with his diverse audiences. Dan turns up laughter when least expected, and taps into the unrestrained joy that music - the best kind of music - can inspire. He also plays traditional folk music and some non-traditional tunes in concert venues across the nation. Those efforts focus on ballads about ordinary people caught up in extraordinary events, such as the Sit-Down Strike of 1936-37, or the sinking of the legendary Edmund Fitzgerald. He's even co-created and produced scores for award-winning PBS television documentaries and recorded a commercial jingle or two.
