It's easy to be a dad on Father's Day.

All you gotta do is wake up, make coffee and enjoy the day. Getting through the rest of the year is the tricky part of fatherhood.

Being a Dad has its benefits.

Every Father's Day, I think I should thank my kids for showing up . . . twenty-five years ago . . . Their arrival probably saved my life . . . or at least extended it significantly. I didn't have children until I was already 40 years old. So, I had lots of bad "habits." When children show up, it changes things . . . usually for the better.

Every Father's Day I come to the realization that if it wasn't for my wife and kids, I might have continued those habits . . . and as a result, probably wouldn't be sitting here writing this column.

Every Father's Day, I forget to tell my wife (Donna) "thanks" for taking the time to "train me" and make me into a pretty good "Dad." Donna has always been the "center-pole" in our family teepee. She led by example. Showed us what was right. And it rubbed off first on me and then on the kids. They turned out good, too. Thanks Donna.

Every Father's Day, I have the same thought: My dad died a year before my kids were born. I am sure he would have enjoyed being a Grampa . . . after all, my mom was certainly a very good "Nana."

So Happy Father's Day to all you Fathers out there. See ya next year . . . Same time . . . Same Bat Channel.

As the saying goes . . . "Any man can be a Father . . . It takes a special man to be a Dad."
