Caseville Township, MI - Nature lovers, photographers, families and those wishing to see summer in bloom are invited to a Wildflower Walk at the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy's Sand Point Nature Preserve on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 9:30 am.

Local wildflower guide Pat Bilbrey will present a mini-lecture on local floral species and their habitat and then guide participants on a short tour through the nature preserve.

The 139-acre preserve has over four miles of trails and is an important ecological area on Wild Fowl Bay, representing the largest remaining area of undeveloped shoreline (4,746 feet) and much of the remaining coastal wetlands on Sand Point. The State of Michigan has recognized the importance of this property by officially designating it an "Environmental Area," a title placed on only about 8.5% of the Great Lakes shoreline.

"The Conservancy's nature preserves are a welcoming place for people looking for relaxation and appreciation of a beautiful, natural environment," said executive director Valerie Roof.

This event is free for all visitors. Children are welcome to participate in the event as well. Photographs are always encouraged, but all preserve plantings must remain undisturbed. In case of rain in the morning, the event will be rescheduled.

Spots are limited; reservation is first-come, first served. Please contact the Conservancy for more information or to reserve tickets at 989.891.9986 or via e-mail at comments@sblc-mi.org.

The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy helps maintain the quality of life in the Saginaw Bay Watershed through the preservation of important wetlands, waterways and land of all types. The Conservancy is a non-profit charitable organization working in the Saginaw Basin. To date, the Conservancy has protected more than 5,500 acres.
