The Bijou Orchestra begins its eighth season! Starting October 9,10, 2010.

All shows are at the State Theatre in Bay City except for November 21 which will be presented in the Rhea Miller recital hall at Saginaw Valley State University.

"We've come to think of the diversity of our concerts as a reflection of a music lover's 'iPodĀ®;' full of variety and surprising juxtapositions. Our eighth season continues to stretch our definition of good music that deserves to be played well and enjoyed by audience and musicians alike," says Leo Najar, artistic director of The Bijou. "When we began, the orchestra was about Ragtime, early swing and classical transcriptions for the American theatre orchestra. We still play all of that, but our repertoire has grown beyond that and we are constantly expanding our stylistic vocabulary as the coming season will show."

10,000 DREAMS, (October 9 and 10, 2010 - State Theatre) a musical history of our home through its four lives as The Bijou, The Orpheum, The Bay and finally, The State Theatre. The program includes musical selections and silent film excerpts from 100+ year history of the theatre located at 913 Washington in Bay City. Bijou favorite soloists (Above Left) Scott Sowinski, (Above Right) Charissa Armon and (Right) Bob Bloenk are guests. 10,000 DREAMS is presented with the support of the Bay County Historical Society, which will present a Second Saturday lecture on the State on October 9 at 1pm at the Historical Museum.

BLAZING! A Celebration of Virtuosity (November 20, 2010 -State Theatre, November 21, 2010 - SVSU) is a program about the sheer joy of mastering an instrument and making music. Featured soloist is Michigan State University Saxophone Professor (Right) Joe Lulloff, internationally renowned as both a classical and a jazz artist. The Bijou will be featured in several pyrotechnical pieces including Franz Liszt's Les Preludes.

ROAD TRIP with (Right) Randall Williams (February 26-27, 2010) features singer, guitarist and composer Randall Williams. We explore traveling music of all kinds, from 18th century opera to modern country and western. There's something for everybody in this program, made possible by Williams - superb musicianship and versatile voice.

MADE IN MICHIGAN is the summation of our season. Our beautiful state has been home to gifted composers of all kinds, from classical composers to hymn writers to Motown and beyond. Our finale features the Bijou and several surprise guests who will help us to perform outstanding music from composers around the state and even here in the Saginaw Valley.

Season tickets are $40, $60, $90 or $120 for the four events. Patrons who have not been subscribers during the past three seasons may take an additional $15 per subscription discount. Individual seats are $10, $20, $25 and $30. Ticket information is available at by calling the State Theatre Box Office at (989) 892-2660 or online at www.thebijou.org. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The Bijou Orchestra takes its name from the Bijou Theater, one of the earliest Bay City theaters, which later became known as the Bay and eventually the State. The ensemble is composed of thirteen outstanding musicians drawn from Michigan and beyond to perform in this challenging medium in which every player is a soloist.

The orchestra is supported in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Midwest, the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, Dow Corning and the Dow Chemical Company Foundation.
