As summer is slowly winding down with school just on the horizon, many young men are grabbing the last bit of summer. But for several young men, mid-August is a chance to reach for a dream of playing Junior level hockey and hopefully beyond.

On August 14 and 15, the Tri City Icehawks hold their final team tryouts for the 2010-11 season at the Bay County Civic Arena. Back to back one and a half hour workouts starting at 10 am will be held on Saturday with the final session starting at 10 am Sunday. For many, this will be a culmination of months and years of hard work as they take the next step forward in their hockey careers.

Team rosters will be announced shortly after the August 15 tryout. But this will only be the beginning for those fortunate enough to be chosen. With the official Icehawks training camp opening August 24, Coach Slater and his staff will begin to mold this team for their opening game on September 10th at the Ice Mountain Arena against the Mountain Cats. The Icehawks home opener is Sunday, September 12 at noon versus the Michigan Ice Dogs.

Coach Slater's recruiting work will not be done. Many of the upper level teams will still be holding tryouts later in the month and into September. That means additional talented players will become available once the North American Hockey league and the Junior A teams set their rosters. Therefore, new faces may arrive even after the season has begun.

With the upcoming training camp comes the need for Billett Families: families that are willing to house a player during the upcoming season. This is a need for all Junior hockey programs and this year, the Icehawks have a need and opening for such families. Colleen Dore noted "the players contribute to the household to help offset their housing expenses." Families interested in supporting these hockey youths may call Colleen Dore at 989-493-1565.

Co-owner and GM, Colleen Dore announces the "Icehawks Cruise" set for August 28, 2010. "This is a great way for the public to meet the players on a one-on-one basis," stated Colleen Dore. "All signed players will be on the cruise. This allows the public to meet the players, something that is harder to do once the season starts.

Cost is $25 per person which includes live music, dinner and a live auction. Boarding begins at 6:30 pm with departure at 7pm. The cruise is schedule to last 4 hours." If you desire more information, Colleen Dore asks that you contact her at 989-493-1565 or Coach Chris Slater at 269-598-2197.
