Bay Area...On The Go!

Michigan had the largest monthly employment increase in July, 2010 of any state in the nation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Michigan added approximately 28,000 jobs last month.
In Bay City, General Motors reported they will invest another $20 million in their Bay City Powertrain plant.

During the past year, General Motors has announced a total of $62.5 million in investments in Bay City that will create or retain 113 jobs here. They will produce components for the new electric Volt engine and the fuel efficient Ecotech engine.

There were two articles in The Bay City Times last week reporting on the growth and improvements at Bay Cast, Inc. Bay Cast is a locally owned company that is building a 17,600 sq. ft. addition. The new addition will allow the company to pour even larger steel castings than the huge castings they presently make.
This is Bay Cast's second significant expansion in the past four years. The Bay Cast companies are owned by Max Holman, Scott S. Holman and Jason Holman.

Dow Corning, headquartered in Bay County's Williams Township, continues to lead in the development of next generation solar panels and other solar energy equipment. They are growing throughout the region.

A new medical service office on Washington Avenue is under construction, as is the new Dow Bay Area Family Y and a new Salvation Army facility. A new restaurant is being built on Center Avenue in Downtown Bay City.

New businesses continue to start up or relocate to the Bay Area, particularly in the retail, restaurant and service industries, and a number of local manufacturing and processing companies are reporting that they are once again seeing growth in their business.

In addition, Bay Future, Inc. is working with at least two out of state companies regarding possible location here and two local manufacturers regarding the feasibility of expansion in Bay County.

It is time for all of us to support business and job development in the Bay Area and throughout the state of Michigan.

Let's make sure that we build bridges to economic development...not put up road blocks.
