Singer, songwriter, and musician Matt Giraud hails from Kalamazoo, Michigan. While studying Jazz at Western Michigan University, Matt received many accolades, one in particular being: Downbeat Magazine's Award for Outstanding Performance by an Artist. After graduating, he made a living as a dueling piano player, singing, and playing in local clubs and hotels in Kalamazoo, MI.
Following a stellar Wild Card performance as a contestant on the eighth season of American Idol, and receiving the first ever judge's save, the singer moved on to the finals.
His Idol run ended on a high-note with the ever-so-hard to impress Simon Cowell raving about his rendition of 'My Funny Valentine'. After the elimination, Matt made appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Access Hollywood, and The Today Show.
Matt performed with the rest of the Season Eight American Idols in the American Idols Live Tour, running from July until September 2009. Included in his set of songs was 'Hard to Handle' by Otis Redding, 'Georgia on My Mind' by Ray Charles, and 'You Found Me' by The Fray. He also performed 'Tell Her About It' by Billy Joel with Scott MacIntyre.
In late November of 2009, Giraud played his first two post-idol solo shows to sold-out crowds in Michigan. To ring in the New Year, Matt performed the National Anthem and half-time show at the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA game in Oklahoma City, Ok. January was also a good month for Giraud. He headlined and helped raise millions for a charity event in Scottsdale, Arizona for the Drive the Dream Foundation. His duet with Anna Wilson 'You Don't Know Me', off of her upcoming album, Countrypolitan Duets, debuted at #1 on the iTunes Jazz single's chart. And on the 29th he performed for another sold-out crowd, with fans attending from all over the globe.
Currently, Matt is continuing to work on his music as an independent artist, writing and recording for an upcoming album. His very limited down time is spent as a mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, a program he has been a proud supporter of for the past four and half years. Matt looks forward to releasing more music for a growing fan base that will inspire and impact other's lives.
