With the final season for the NEMC set to kickoff, all four teams had hopes of being the one to win the final championship of the league. Standish entered Friday's contest looking strong having rebounded from a tough opening game loss to Almont, 14-8 by soundly defeating Gladwin, 41-14.

John Glenn was looking even stronger as they had previously defeated Cadillac, 41-14, then shutout Gaylord, 21-0. After both teams exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter, it was all John Glenn as the host Bobcats ran and threw for a 39-20 NEMC victory.

John Glenn drew first blood in the first quarter when Travis Bryant's interception gave them the ball on the Standish 15 yard line. Moments later, Devin McCulloh drove the ball in from the two yard line to put Glenn in front 6-0.

Standish responded by putting together a nice drive of their own. Using a running attack off the spread offense, the Panthers grind the ball down field before Garrett Pierce scampered 12 yards for the score. When Standish kick also failed, the score was tied at 6 apiece.

Glenn took the lead in the second quarter. Following a Standish punt, Glenn drove the ball to their one where Devin McCulloh punched it in for a touchdown. With the extra point being no good, the Bobcats held a 12-0 lead.

After Standish was held to a three and out, Glenn took possession following a punt on their 39. Two plays later, Travis Bryant hit Tanner Kain for a 59 yard touchdown strike and the Bobcats were off and running. A good extra point made it 19-6.

Standish threatened at the end of the quarter but putting together a strong drive. Starting on their own 20, the Panthers worked the ball down to the Glenn 10 with time running out. But a strong defensive stand by Glenn stopped the Panthers and sent the two teams into the locker room with a 19-6 score.

Neither team could move the ball to open the second half. On Glenn's second possession, the Bobcats put together a 10 play drive capped off by a 7 yard strike to Brandon Vittitow for a touchdown. With the extra point, the Bobcats had increased their lead to 26-6.

Standish went to the air to get their offense rolling. But a third down sack by Matthew Doyle kept the Panthers in check and forced a punt.

Beginning the fourth quarter, it didn't take long for Glenn to find paydirt again. On their third play, Travis Bryant peeled off a 58 yard touchdown run and with the extra point, Glenn had a commanding 33-6 lead.

But Standish wasn't about to throw in the towel. On their first play at their 21, quarterback Ryan Whitman hit Cole Walderzak for a 79 yard touchdown strike narrowing the margin to 33-13.

When Standish was unable to recover their onside kick, Glenn had excellent field position. Bryant went right to the air has he hit Jackson Frederick for 13 yards. Soon after, Bryant found Tanner Kain for a 26 yard touchdown to seal the win. Even after the extra point failed, the Bobcats were now ahead 39-13.

But Standish just wouldn't go away. On the ensuing kickoff, Blake Grivetti received the ball on the 5 and sprinted 85 yards before being caught on the Glenn 10. Then Whitman hit Walderzak for a 6 yard touchdown strike to end the scoring at 39-20.

While John Glenn was defeating Standish, Ogemaw kept its perfect season going by polishing off Pinconning 53-6. Ogemaw now travels to John Glenn next Friday night for what looks to be a championship contest between the two high powered teams. While three teams could finish at 2-1, next weeks winner clearly will have their destiny in their own hands. It certainly is set up for quite a game.

On the night, Travis Bryant was 7 for 11 for 138 yards and 3 touchdowns. Devon McCulloh ran for 101 yards on 12 carries while Bryant added 59 yards on four carries.
