Records don't always tell the story. Entering the game with identical records, it was expected to be a close, hard fought contest. But the Eagles size and speed along with excellent starting field position all night proved to be too much for the Dukes as Frankenmuth scored 28 second half points on their way to a 42-6 TVC victory.

Garber opened the game with a power T formation offense. Twice going for it on fourth down and making it, the Dukes ground their way downfield before being stopped in Eagle territory. The first break of the game came when the Garber punt hit the backside of a Duke blocker spiraling directly to a Frankenmuth player who ran the ball to midfield.

Immediately Frankenmuth's speed became apparent. The Eagles spread the Duke defense out by using wide gaps on the offensive line. This allowed their speedy backs to find holes for big gains. On the Eagles second play, Spencer Bell to the option pitch and with a quick in and out cut sprinted 44 yards to put Frankenmuth on top. With the extra point kick, the Eagles were on top 7-0.

Frankenmuth looked to capitalize on this quick score by attempting an onside kick. But Kyle Connelly snatched the high bounding kick out of the air and the Dukes had good field position on their 46. Back to back penalties moved the Dukes back 20 yards ultimately resulting in a punt.

The Eagles again enjoy midfield position which they took advantage of. Quarterback Doug Ham hit Ryan Stainforth on a crossing pattern for 28 yards to the Duke 25. The Duke defense was poised to hold off the Eagles when they forced a fourth and one from the two yard line. Frankenmuth ran a reverse which the Duke defense looked to have caught in the Eagle backfield. But receiver Luke Bade just out ran the Duke defenders across field barely reaching the corner of the end zone for the score, with the kick making it 14-0.

Garber struck back on their next possession. Quarterback Brandon Loomis threw to Ryley Henika on a quick slant. Henika showed speed of his own as he blew by the Eagle defense for a 44 yard touchdown. With a blocked extra point kick, the score was now 14-6.

The fired up Dukes then pinned Frankenmuth deep in their own territory with a touchback. After a couple first downs, the Eagles punted and Garber took over. But the Eagle defense shut down Garber forcing a three and out and with a big punt return found them starting a midfield again.

Frankenmuth used their speed running the option from sideline to sideline moving the ball down field. Then they went to the air looking for the score when Kyle Connelly stepped in front of the pass at the 5, intercepting an apparent touchdown and giving Garber the ball with 1:47 left in the half.

Garber looked to capitalize on the momentum swing when Chris Quinn powered his way on a 14 yard run. Then Loomis hit Connelly for a key third down pass for 11 yards to keep the drive alive. But a big sack ended the Duke hopes forcing another punt.

Frankenmuth quickly moved the ball to midfield but with time running out they went to the air. Connelly was there to record his second interception ending the half at 14-6.

Early penalties on Garber changed the whole second half. On Frankenmuth's opening drive, it appeared the Dukes had held when a pass interference call gave the Eagles a first down. Then running back Ian Fischer took the ball around right end and with some nifty moves raced 35 yards for a touchdown and with the kick, a 21-7 lead.

Disaster immediately struck as a miscue on the snap caused a 12 yard loss. Then two penalties moved the ball back even further forcing a punt. The return put the Eagles at midfield again. Bell then took the pitch outside for 17 yards. Then Ham found Luke Bade for a 24 yard touchdown strike and Frankenmuth was well in command of the game at 28-6.

Following a big punt return to the Garber 30, Frankenmuth was looking for more while still in the third quarter. Grinding the ball down to the three, Travis Davis ran the ball to the wide side for another Eagle touchdown and a 35-6 lead.

Not content with a big win, Frankenmuth looked to pile it on with an onside kick. While Garber recovered the ball, they were unable to do anything with it and were forced to punt. Frankenmuth then went for the punt block and got it giving their offense midfield position again. Carter Murlick took the ball up the middle breaking loose for 56 yards for Frankenmuth's final touchdown of the night making the final 42-6.

With the win, Frankenmuth keeps in the hunt for the TVC title while Garber has to set its sights on qualifying for the playoffs. The Dukes travel to Birch Run for yet again, another tough TVC opponent.

Garber"s Ryley Henika was the intended receiver but turned defender to knock away the ball from Frankenmuth"s Ian Fischer who had gotten good position on the pass.
