One of John Glenn's team goals this year was to win the final NEMC championship. With two impressive wins already accomplished against the remaining league foes in Standish and Ogemaw, the only remaining obstacle was always tough, Pinconning. While the Spartans put up a good fight for most of the first half, the Bobcats remained focused as they cruised to a 42-7 championship win.

The game started a little shaky for Glenn. After starting at midfield, Devin McCulloh peeled off a nice 17 yard gain. Then the Bobcats fumbled away good field position giving early momentum to the Spartans. After giving up a first down completion, the Glenn defense shut down any further advancement forcing a Pinconning punt.

Starting on their eleven yard line, it didn't take the Bobcats long to find the other end of the field. Following a 16 yard burst by Reid Alexander, Tanner Kain took over the yardage for Glenn. Finding a seam, he scampered for 40 yards. Then Kain hauled in a nice pass from Travis Bryant for 24 yards putting the Bobcats on Pinconning's three yard line. Kain finished the scoring drive off with a three yard run and with the kick, Glenn was up 7-0.

The Spartans came right back with a couple first downs before three straight incomplete passes forced another punt that put Glenn back on their 16.

The Bobcats went right back on the attack as they marched through the Spartan defense with their hard charging ground game. After reaching midfield, Devin McCulloh broke loose for a 51 yard touchdown run and Glenn was in front 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.

After exchanging punts, Glenn went back on the march as the moved the ball from their 23 to Pinconning's 16 before a strong fourth down stand by the Spartans turned the ball over on downs. The momentum swing was short lived as Devin McCulloh scooped up a Spartan fumble and ran 35 yards for a 21-0 Bobcat lead.

On their next possession, Pinconning looked for a quick strike as they went deep with the pass. But Travis Bryant picked it off returning the ball 52 yards to the Spartan one. Jackson Frederickson punched it in and a seemingly close game just got blown open 28-0 at the half.

Glenn's opening possession of the third quarter was their only one of the quarter. But it proved productive. Starting at their 23 yard line following a punt, the Bobcats mixed passing and the run to march 78 yards in 10 plays for another touchdown. The drive was capped off by a 12 yard scoring strike from Bryant to Kain putting Glenn well in control of the game at 35-0.

Glenn finished off their scoring in the fourth quarter with a nine play grind it out drive finished off with a five yard run by Brandon Light making it 42-0.

Pinconning finally found paydirt on their last possession with just five seconds remaining on the clock. Henry Patterson broke free from the eleven to score making the final, 42-7.

While being outmatched, the Spartans showed their never quit attitude as they kept fighting to make their score.

Glenn's Devin McCulloh led all rushers with 121 yards on only 9 carries while scoring a touchdown on both sides of the ball. Tanner Kain added 84 yards on 10 carries and had 60 receiving yards on three receptions including a touchdown. Travis Bryant was 4-8 for 97 yards and a touchdown pass while adding a defensive interception to his night.

John Glenn travels to Big Rapids as they set their sights on qualifying next week for the MHSAA playoffs.

Pinconning travels north to take on a familiar opponent in Tawas. The Spartans will be in search of their first win of the season.
