When Danny Brauns got into his VanBuren County, Iowa treestand on October 17th, he had no idea he was about to have an encounter with a world-class Whitetail. Fast forward a couple of hours and Brauns was sitting over the buck of a lifetime, less than 50 yds. from his treestand. The entire hunt was filmed in HD for Tim Roller's Wild Addiction TV and DVD, making it quite possibly the largest Whitetail taken on professional video with a bow during the 2010 season to this point. Brauns shot the monster buck at 13yds. with his Mathews Z7 bow, while it was eating in a Whitetail Select food plot it had just entered. "I heard a deer coming through the timber from directly behind me (to the food plot).", recalled Brauns. "When I turned around, I saw a mature doe walking right at me. I could hear another deer moving behind her and assumed it was her fawn. When I glanced back, all I saw were chocolate antlers behind her. He followed her right into the plot, walking almost directly under me, and immediately started eating."
Brauns wasn't taking any chances. As soon as the camera was centered on the feeding buck, he buried his Easton Axis arrow perfectly behind the shoulder. "The Tru-Fire Switchblade broadhead completely devastated him", says Brauns. "He ran 30yds. into the Whitetail Select food plot and fell over. . . all on camera. That's when it started to sink in just how big this deer really was."
This is the second season Brauns has been filming for BugWater Media's Tim Roller's Wild Addiction. "Danny is an integral part of our pro-staff", stated Wild Addiction host and producer Tim Roller. "This is incredible validation of not only Danny's skills as a hunter, but also his commitment to management on his grounds. His strict policies on allowing deer to reach maturity, along with his tremendous work ethic in planting food plots and making his ground the best it can, is obviously paying huge dividends. This buck is but one example, of many, that Danny has provided us on video and Reconyx trail cameras. If anyone can "deserve" a buck like this, then Danny's the guy. I couldn't be happier, or more proud, of him.", Roller added.
