You know things are going tough when you start the game with a penalty. That is just what happened to the Icehawks as they were assessed a delay of game penalty for not coming out onto the ice in time to start the game. While they were able to hold the Chiefs off the scoreboard for the opening two minutes, the Chiefs clearly had the momentum to start the game.

The Chiefs carried the play following the penalty and were rewarded by a goal when Michael Lang beat Alex Montagano to make it 1-0.

The Icehawks picked up their game challenging the Chiefs offensive zone but were unable to dent the twine. Just over half way through the period, Ryan Brown made it 2-0 Chiefs. Then fifteen seconds later, Robert Speer attacked the net from the left side and making a fake, froze the goaltender only to slide a pass to the back side to a wide open Matt Reno making it 3-0 Chiefs.

The Icehawks responded with a goal of their own when Cameron Bruff took a pass from Josh Koehn and found the back of the net making it 3-1. Then the Chiefs Vincent Rossi made it 4-1 with a goal on a pass from Jeff McFarland. The Chief's controlled much of the play by keeping pressure on the net outshooting the Icehawks 18 to 9 in the period.

Not much changed in the second period as the Chiefs took advantage of the larger Olympic size rink. Whenever the Icehawks put pressure on the Chiefs, they would dump it down the sides of the boards hard enough to keep it deep in the Icehawk zone without getting an icing. This allowed the Chief's to keep heavy pressure on Montagano. The Chief's fifth goal came as Matt Reno found the top right corner of the net over a diving Montagano. The Chief's made it 6-1 after a save; Collin Flynn got to the loose puck and flipped it over the goaltender. John Mulligan made it 7-1 as the Chiefs were able to convert on a powerplay.

The Icehawks made a goaltender switch to start the third period bringing in Elliot Wrasse. The Chiefs wasted no time getting to the new netminder as the scored twice in the first minute and a half increasing their lead to 9-1. Then tempers flared as four fight majors and two game ejections were handed out to each side. Following the bouts, Zach Bauer took a pass at his blue line, skated past the Chiefs blue line then made a drop pass to Justin Lacy who beat the Chiefs goalie glove side for an Icehawks goal. Then with a minute to play, Jeffry Wood took a long pass at the blue line and beating the defenseman slid it under goalie Jordan Esparza's pad making it 9-3 Chiefs. The Chiefs score with 10 seconds to play making it a 10-3 Motor City victory.

The loss made it the second night in a row they have given up 10 goals. Most notably is the number of shots they are giving up which is contributing to an already shaky goaltender situation. But hope springs eternal as despite the large losses, the Icehawks have shown vast improvement over the last two weeks. You can be sure that Coach Slater will have his boys working on those defensive issues as they prepare to take on the equally winless Indianapolis Inferno Friday night, November 12th at the Bay County Ice Arena. Puck drops at 7:30pm.
