Thanks to the generosity of 28 local small businesses in Downtown Bay City, a total of $2,700 will be donated to 23 different non-profit organizations from this year's Mingle & Jingle: Downtown Gives Back event. On Thursday, November 18, 2010, the community was encouraged, through marketing efforts of both the downtown businesses and the non-profit organizations, to mingle with their neighbors and help put some jingle in the hands of their favorite organizations.

When notified this week by the Bay City Downtown Management Board that a check for $531.35 would be coming to the Humane Society of Bay County, their representative Jeannie Wolicki-Nichols stated, "This is a wonderful surprise! The Mingle & Jingle event offers a wonderful partnership between businesses and non-profits. We sincerely thank all the businesses for participating and all the shoppers for choosing the Humane Society."

The Downtown Management Board starts working on the November event in August, sending information to community non-profit organizations outlining the event requirements that encourages the non-profits to market the event to their supporters. Wolicki-Nichols noted that the Humane Society had sent an informational letter about the event to their members, along with a special pocket guide for them to use while shopping that included the names of all the participating non-profits organizations.

Information about Mingle & Jingle was also sent by the Imagination Station program organizers to all the families in Bay and Arenac County who been involved in the reading program. According to Bay-Arenac ISD Superintendent Mike Dewey. "The funds we receive for this great event will help enhance and improve the Imagination Library program that is so important to introducing young children to the joy of reading."

This is the second year for Downtown's Mingle & Jingle event, which according to Melissa Eigner, Downtown Marketing & Promotions Coordinator, is great for everyone involved - Downtown businesses, non-profits organizations and our customers. "With an increase in donations of over 25% from last year, all indications are that this special community event will continue to grow. We've already started planning for next year's event on November 17, 2011."
