Saturday night the Tri City Icehawks returned to the Bay County Civic Arena after a month on the road. While the road trip didn't produce another win, the Icehawks made winners of themselves off the ice. The Icehawks teamed up with the United States Marine Corp in sponsoring a Toys For Tots night. Every fan who brought in a new unwrapped toy received free admission to the game.

The Icehawks needed more than goodwill from the Marines. The Icehawks entered the contest with the Wooster Oilers six players short due to injuries, illnesses and a couple suspensions. The loss of several of these key players was clearly evident as the Oilers out shout, out hustled and out played the Icehawks enroute to a 7-0 Oiler win.

Wooster dominated the play from the opening drop of the puck. Outshooting the Icehawks 14 to 3 in the period, the Oilers kept constant pressure on netminder Elliot Wrasse. Four minutes into the period, Wooster peppered Wrasse from close range with forward Jon Starling making a leg save of his own before Oiler Nate Pritchard knocking it in to make it 1-0.

Just over two minutes later, Oiler Ian Reffert skated in on Wrasse and beat him through the five hole making it 2-0 in the first period.

The second period showed little change. Starting the period on the power play, the Oilers scored 26 seconds into the period on a tipped shot of the faceoff. The Icehawks settled things down holding off the Oiler attack while struggling to keep the puck in the Oiler zone for any offensive pressure. Then the Oilers picked up a rebound making it 4-0 with less than 6 minutes in the period.

In the waning seconds of the period, Riley Harder to a pass from behind the net and fired it into the back of the net with 4.8 seconds on the clock. The score capped off another period of outshooting the Icehawks 12-3.

A change of goaltender did little to energize the Icehawks. Except on power plays, the Oilers kept the puck in the Icehawk zone tallying two more scores to make it a 7-0 final.

The Oilers outshot the Icehawks 46-12 for the game in a dominating performance. Sunday afternoon the two teams met in a rematch at the Dow Center as part of the hockey doubleheader.
