Christian Laettner, onetime Duke University basketball star, will headline Bay City's JJKN Hoops March Madness celebration March 26-27.
The legendary player will conduct a coaching clinic at the second annual Bay County Legends Game, featuring 48 former area high school players from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's.
Laettner is synonymous with March Madness as he holds the record for most points scored (407), most free throws made (142), most free throw attempts (167) and most games played (23 out of 24 possible) in the NCAA tournament.
Laettner, 42, is the only player to ever start in all four Final Fours and is most famous for his last-second game-winning shot to beat Kentucky in 1992 East Regional Final.
He was the only college member of the "Dream Team" that won the 1992 Olympics and was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played for half a dozen pro teams, ending his pro career with the Miami Heat in 2004-2005.
TJ Newsham, JJKN Hoops President, is excited about having Laettner coming to town, stating: "We haven't quite decided on the itinerary for the weekend but we will have a series of clinics on March 26th and a dinner that evening.
"On Sunday, we will conduct a coaching clinic very similar to what Christian experienced at Duke. Overall, we are expecting a great weekend of basketball on the court and stories off of the court."
