Rotary met at Do-All's Smart Choice Cafe last Tuesday. This was the second of two "off site" meetings that the club holds each year. Director Chris Girard introduced Gallery Manager Linda Cassar to talk about the Do-Art program and Gallery located in the old Knepps building at 810 Washington Ave.

Do-All, Inc. provides training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities. Formed in 1952 by the Bay County Association of Retarded Citizens (BCARC), do has since started a number of other organizations to expand opportunities and offerings to the community.

Do-Art provides artists with and without disabilities a place to create and to sell their art. The program includes many forms from drawing and painting to sculpture and crafts. The building provides work areas and exhibit space.

Do-Art was started in 2007 with the studio where artists can work, get assistance, and improve their skills and confidence. The exhibit area and gallery was added in 2009 and is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 5:00.

Two of Do-Art's artists talked about their experience and their work. Kari Manning works as Linda's assistant, paints, and helps with displays and exhibits. Kari talked about her work and how the opportunities have helped her grow in both her skill levels and confidence.

John Rigg is a talented artist who had not painted for a dozen years before coming to Do-Art. The program gave him the opportunity and confidence to pick up where he left off as a painter. In his words "it helped when I sold two paintings, which completely validated me as an artist". Rigg went on to say that being around other artists galvanizes and inspires him to paint. His goals include creative writing.

Chris Girard followed up by saying that this is a community program and is open to all artists. The gallery also takes works on consignment giving all artists a place to exhibit and sell their works.
