Nearly 300 women will gather for the Great Lakes Bay Region annual Go Red for Women Luncheon and Conference on Thursday, February 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Horizons Center, Saginaw. The fundraiser inspires, educates, and moves women to love their hearts.

The half-day event includes educational sessions, free health screenings, exhibits, and a heart healthy lunch. The keynote speaker will be Jesse Gales, Head Chef of Weight Watchers. Self-proclaimed "foodie" Chef Jessica Gales has proven that healthy living and the enjoyment of food can easily go hand-in-hand. Graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, Jesse has worked at a number of fine restaurants during her career. She has always looked at cooking as empowerment. With a family history of weight issues, diabetes and high blood pressure she completely understands the role that our diets play in life threatening illnesses like heart disease. Although eating well can't halt heredity, she believes that how you can manage those inherited ailments is affected by what you eat. At the Go Red For Women luncheon Chef Gales will conduct a fun, interactive and informative cooking demonstration.

Also on the agenda, is Chuck Cote' of Midland. Coté is a professional speaker, author and business adviser who inspires people to Expect The Best and take responsibility for getting it! But more importantly, he is a cardiovascular disease survivor. While on the golf course with his wife, Cote' collapsed due to having 95% blockage in two carotid arteries. He will share his story as to how the disease has affected him and his wife and how they've overcome it.

The Go Red For Women Luncheons are designed to educate attendees about the risk of heart disease in women and also generate revenue to support women's heart health education, awareness and research. ? in 3 women die of cardiovascular disease," stated Stacey Gannon, Go Red Chairperson. "Yet, women don't realize the risk of developing heart disease and the fact that they have the power to prevent it."

Gannon adds, "It is important that women learn about heart disease and what they can do to prevent it. Knowing your numbers and talking to your doctor about your risks is an important first step. The Go Red For Women Luncheon is another way that can help educate women about heart disease prevention."
