The Tri City IceHawks took advantage of the long holiday lay off to make some changes with the team. With only one win in 28 games, the IceHawks made a coaching move promoting Assistant Coach Chris Lacy to the helm. Coach Lacy brings with him solid coaching experience including having been the coach for Saginaw Valley State University.

More importantly, Coach Lacy brings a more intense style of coaching stressing accountability and discipline to a team that has lacked that much of the year. While his first game behind the bench was against the second place IceDogs, the change was evident as the IceHawks went toe to toe the whole distance before three late third period goals downed the IceHawks, 8 to 5.

Tri Cities "New Attitude" was evident from the start as they were more aggressive putting the body on the puck carrier often and challenging every shot. The Michigan IceDogs got on top first when James Subu found the back of the net six minutes into the contest. Icehawks Zack Bauer knotted the game up two minutes later with a blast from the top of the circles.

Michigan would take the lead later in the period on a powerplay goal by Subu. Tri City responded moments later with a powerplay goal of their own when Jeffry Wood scored on a wrap around shot. Tri City took the lead when new comer Ryan Connor snapped a rebound past Alexander Caruana and forcing the IceDogs to make a goaltender change.

Michigan tied the game up with just under the minute left in the period to make it 3 to 3.

The IceHawks regained the lead just shy of the halfway point of the second period. Recent addition Ryan Meier found an opening on the right side of the net and buried it to give the IceHawks a 4-3 lead. Michigan was able to tie the game again as Ryan Morse beat Alex Montagano making it 4-4 after two periods of play.

The play was intense in the final period as the IceHawks fought to gain their second win. Justin Lacy put the IceHawks ahead almost half way into the period when he buried a rebound making it 5-4. But the fairy night of rags to riches was not meant to be as the IceDogs tied the game a minute later then scored 3 goals in the final six minutes to notch the win at 8-5.

While the result was the same as seen before, the effort and intensity was much different as the IceHawks battled to the end showing they can play with the top teams of the league.
