On Tuesday, February 1, 2011 a County Commission Meeting was held concerning the issue of the Bay County Fair Grounds Grand Stands as Bay County Fair Board Members voiced their concerns.
Inspectors had done an evaluation on whether the roof over the Grand Stand should be replaced or modified for safety codes.
Leo Bouchard, President of the Bay County Fair & Youth Expo was notified early this week, that the metal canopy covering the Grand stands will be removed.
The Bay County Fair Grounds in Bay City which is host to approximately seven to nine events a year -- including Figure 8, Bump 'N Grind, and the annual Bay County Fair -- is a historical marker in the community.
Bouchard, said, "This has made quite a impact and it's depressing to see a historical fixture that has been in Bay County for 50 years come down."
One of Bouchard's concerns now is to decide on a temporary solution to cover the grand stand for shade and/or shelter of rain and keep visitors comfortable.
Bouchard, said, "The annual Bay County Fair is something the youth of Bay County and surrounding areas look forward to every year and we want to continue it and other events for the youth."
Bouchard continued, "Our motto has always been to be a showcase for the youth, bringing them up with the right objectives and motivation that will keep them out of trouble. They are the Fair's future."

Great story on the Bay County Fair and I totally agree, this is for the children of Bay County. I grew up being in 4-H and I think this is what Bay County is needed for our young people of Bay County. My children are involved in the fair and has learned so much. I am so glad someone is paying attention to the fair grounds. Thanks Julie for the great story.
