Delta College has placed first in its private fundraising efforts among Michigan community colleges participating in a national survey.

Delta College raised $2,607,962 from the private sector in 2010, compared to $1,852,622 in 2009 (a nearly 41 percent increase).

The annual Voluntary Support of Education (VSE) survey is conducted by the Council for Aid to Education of New York City, NY. Results indicated that charitable contributions to colleges and universities in the United States increased 0.5 percent in 2010, reaching $28 billion. Adjusted for inflation, charitable giving declined overall nationwide by 0.6 percent.

"We are grateful for the continued support that we receive from individuals, corporations and foundations," said Dr. Jean Goodnow, Delta College President.

"Delta depends on the generous gifts of our friends, patrons and alumni to ensure the margin of excellence we enjoy. These dollars help to provide the best possible education for our students."

For more information on the survey, visit www.cae.org.

For 50 years, Delta College has shown that an investment in one institution can impact the dreams of hundreds of thousands of residents.

Delta's past offered decades of significant economic impact by providing a trained and ready workforce.

"Today, the College is again shaping the history of a region by partnering with area employers to spearhead alternative energy solutions," said Dr. Goodnow, concluding:

"Often referred to as one of America's leading community colleges, Delta has 61 percent of its 50,000 alumni living in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Delta College is proud to be celebrating our past, and pioneering our future!"
