American Athletic Association (AAA), (A Bay City based golden Gloves Boxing Team) is hosting their 13th Annual Fight Night -- a Pre-Golden Gloves Competition.

Boxing event will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Michigan National Guard Armory located at 2510 East Wilder Road in Bay City.

The show is sanctioned by USA Boxing Michigan Association. Boxers are from Sault Ste Marie Canada, Flint, Saginaw, Port Huron, Davison, Grand Rapids, Detroit & Ohio. There will be approximately 12 bouts featuring fighters of various weights and ages -- including a featured woman's bout.

(Right) Jodi Eller, 25, of Essexville will fight in one of the the main attractions. Eller, originally from Tennessee, has been enlisted in the Coast Guard (E-3) for almost 3 years. Eller's duties include search and rescue, navigation, as well as local law enforcement on the water.

Eller said, "Right now we are doing the training ice rescues." Eller was also an exchange student in England during high school and plans to go back to school after her time in the military.

According to Eller she trained for a year in boxing at the age of 13. Eller joined the AAA Boxing team, because she was looking to get back into shape, and thought she would do it by doing something she loves to do, boxing.

Eller will fight for the first time on February 26, 2011. Eller said, "I've developed a strength I've never had before. It really feels awesome!" Eller is at 135 pounds, "I've been doing a lot of cardio, sparring and watching my nutrition."

(Above) 24 year old Mike VanDorn, 24, who just came off an impressive win in Cleveland at the end of January will be another feature bout. VanDorn started boxing in May of 2010 when he was inspired by a co-worker -- Golden Gloves Eastern Michigan Champion, Matt Maciag. Maciag is now a coach at the boxing club.

Maciag, said, "Mike has tremendously improved since last year, he is a completely different fighter." Maciag continued, "He (VanDorn) has dropped 50 pounds, he's throwing 3-4 punch combinations, things are starting to click for him. He is becoming a boxer instead of a fighter."

Jim Maciag is also a coach for the boxing team, and said of Doran, "His level of confidence has built up and it definitely showed in his last victory in Cleveland."

Head Coach Robert Arsenault encourages the community to come out and support these local boxers who deserve applause -- win or lose. According to the coaches, "To get into the ring in front of hundreds of fight fans requires more then just physical conditioning, it takes courage and self confidence that is gained through a rigid training program."

Ticket prices are $20 at the door $15 in advance.
