The hard thing about rebuilding a program is the tough roads that have to be followed. Garber experienced that Tuesday night as the benching of the starters early in the second half led to a route by Birch Run. While the second unit put up a strong battle, the Panthers came away with a 74-39 win.

The first quarter was a fast paced pressure game. A hounding defense by both teams made for some tough shots as baskets were hard to come by. As the quarter progressed, Birch Run started finding the range as they pulled out to a 12-5 advantage.

Both teams hit a pace that allowed for better ball control which translated into better offensive flow. And while Garber started getting better looks at the basket, the shots just didn't drop early on. Meanwhile, the Panthers heated up as they started pulling away. Soon both teams were exchanging baskets as they slugged it out the rest of the quarter. But Birch Run had built a 16 point lead and ended the half leading 38-22.

Garber looked to shake things up in the second half. After Birch Run scored two quick baskets, Garber's Coach Gilliam pulled his starters and installed his second unit. While the unit worked hard, missed shots turned into quick baskets and the Panthers outscored the Dukes 24 to 10 in the third to take a commanding 62-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Garber's fortunes didn't change much in the final stanza as Birch Run pulled away for a 74-39 win. While the move may have not resulted in a win, the players got quality floor time and showed rapid improvement. But even with strong moves to the basket, they just could get enough to fall to pull close. Much of that could be attributed to the strong defensive play by Birch Run.

Zach Wenzlick led Birch Run with 22 points while Jacob Angebrandt and Taylor Ellis added 11.

Ryley Henika led Garber with 14 points while Kyle Connelly added 5.
