5-Hour Energy Shots are swigged by consumers to the tune of $650 Million each year..

Recent ad campaigns for the 5-hour energy drink show a drowsy guy, just out of bed and fumbling about the house before he can be on the way to work . . . but he's behind schedule . . . and therefore has "no time for coffee" in the midst of this morning stupor.

The premise of the ad says to merely "Grab a 5-hour energy drink" -- a few ounces of stimulus in a tiny little two ounce bottle . . . and everything will be "just fine" for the rest of the day.

As soon as our 5-hour energy morning swigger downs the bottle of ?-hour" . . . he says after chugging the bottle . . . "Let's do this."

5-hour Energy is a flavored energy made by a Michigan company based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. It is sold in 2-oz (59 ml) containers. The makers of the drink claim that it will provide hours of energy and, unlike other energy drinks, will not cause a sugar crash later.

After its introduction in 2004, ?-hour" sparked a wave of "energy shot" drinks, and it is now the number one selling product in the energy shot category in the US.

Energy "shots" are quickly replacing energy "drinks" as the primary energy stimulus. You can buy a 6-pack of these 2-ounce bottles (depending on store selection) for about $15 bucks . . . or about $2.50 per 2-ounce bottle

In another advertisement, 5-hour Energy marketeers claim that their little bottles are consumed five million times a week . . . in flavors of berry, lemon-lime, orange, grape (new) and pomegranate . . . That's just a million people swigging two ounces five time per week (or every morning on the way to work.)

I did the math . . . cuz that's what I do . . . so you don't have to . . .

Five million bottles x 52 weeks x $2.50 is $650 million dollars -- (5,000,000 x 52 x $2.50 = $650,000,000.)

Holy Crap!

That's a lot of energy.

Personally, I'm still getting my caffeine the old fashioned way . . . in a cup of Folgers . . . brewed in my trust old Mr. Coffee Brewmaster.

First, they took away my paper cuz it was faster and easier to deliver the news to me via the INTERNET. Now they want to take away the joy of sipping morning coffee while the day unfolds.

For sure . . . having to daily toss yesterday's coffee grounds can be annoying when you can barely open your eyes . . . then measuring the coffee and then the water . . . then clutzing around with those stuck-together coffee filters can seem like torture . . . and it might sound teasingly simple to just swig down a two ounce bottle of ?-hour" and . . . . "Do This" . . .

But I'm sticking with the wake-up ritual, tradition and smell of morning coffee filling the house.

Some traditions are worth holding onto.

So pour me another cup of morning coffee and then we'll "Get 'R Done."
