It is pretty hard to beat this number: #1 "Vocal/Traditional Band of the Decade." That is what the Chicago's Irish American News is saying about Ireland's David Munnelly Band.
"The Irish band to see," says the Irish Voice of the Munnelly Band. They have built their reputation by bringing a new energy to traditional music. They have won special acclaim for incorporating the sound of 1920's and 30's by weaving in and out of traditional Irish music and different musical styles; especially the recognition by LiveIreland.com 'Concert of the Year' award in 2006 and 2007.
County Mayo native David Munnelly, the 'Bullet from Belmullet,' leads the Munnelly Band.
The button accordion wizard says his music is a rough and tumble mix of rhythm and sound that is reflective of the craggy coastline of Western Ireland. Kat Eggleston joins him on vocals, along with Kieran Munnelly (flute, bodhran, vocals), Philippe Barnes (guitar, flute), and Paul Kelly on fiddle and mandolin. Sean Laffey, editor of Irish Music Magazine puts it best, 'There is no musician or ensemble who has mastered so much of the roots of the music in such a joyous, spirited, and engaging way as Munnelly.
