Steve Armstrong and the 25 Cent Beer Band were getting ready to perform on the Entertainment Stage during the annual 2011 Fireworks Auction/Fundraiser on Sunday over at BARTS on Midland Street in Bay City.

"Were just honored to be a part of the event," Steve Armstrong said. "Who doesn't like Fireworks?"

That just about sums up what everybody in Bay City says about the annual Fourth of July Fireworks 3-day event every July.

Long-time auctioneers Jeff Doan and Mike Gwizdala were at the microphones all day Saturday and Sunday hawking the over 200 different donated items to the television viewing public. The entire event was televised live by Bay3 TV over Charter Cable Channels #99 and Channel 991.

According to Doug Clark, President of the Bay City Fireworks Association, everything is "right on schedule" as far as the money for the 2011 event is concerned.

Clark says the event will be June 30, July 1st and July 2nd this year because the Fourth of July is on a Monday. "We want to keep the Thursday-Friday-Saturday schedule," Clark said.

Clark said the goal this year for the weekend auction is anywhere close to $15,000. "Times are tough," Clark admitted. "But we're doing just fine this year."

Big items still on the auction block as of Sunday afternoon were:

  • Queen Size Mattress donated by Chip Matuszewski (Sleep Doctor)

  • Berkline Massage Chair donated by Chad Cunningham (Prime Bros.)

  • Three Month Membership Old Town Gym (Ray Neering)

  • Vegas/Cancun/Carnival Cruise -- Old Town Gym (Ray Neering

  • Slot Machine donated by CrimeStoppers (Tom Matuszewski)
